Job Description:
The Department of Molecular Genetics and Microbiology at the University of Florida (UF) College of Medicine invites applications for a tenure-track position at the ranks of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor in Virology. Our faculty includes some of the brightest and most innovative scholars spanning the virology and genetics disciplines. The Department continues a major expansion of the faculty as part of a 5-year strategic plan (see accompanying ad for geneticist). UF has 70 virology research laboratories situated across seven colleges and institutes that are supported by state-of-the-art resources and centers in immunology. vector biology, metabolomics, and oncogenesis. UF is also developing a world-class artificial intelligence (AI) research infrastructure to support investigators. Research spans many virus families, with existing strengths in arboviruses, tumor viruses, polymicrobial interactions, and neurovirology. We are particularly interested in recruiting candidates who will build a research program that complements these existing strengths.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop or have created a vibrant, externally funded research program, participate in graduate-level teaching, and recruit and mentor outstanding trainees.
The positions offer outstanding research space, a highly collaborative environment, and substantial start-up packages.
Expected Salary:
Annual salary range is $110,000 - $230,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience.

Preferred:

The Team:
The Launceston General Hospital is an accredited 450 bed teaching hospital and is the major referral hospital for Tasmania’s North and North-West. The hospital provides emergency and acute care, specialist services, inpatient and ambulatory care to Launceston and surrounding areas. Launceston General Hospital is the largest employer in the region with around 2,300 staff.

The hospital has a close working partnership with the University of Tasmania and works with many universities to provide clinical practice experience for students within different areas of Medicine, Nursing & Midwifery, Allied Health and Pharmacy.
The Clifford Craig Foundation is the community arm of the hospital. It aims to improve the health of the community through the provision of funding for innovative medical research, education of health professions, funding of medical equipment and patient facilities within the hospital. The Role:
Manage the postgraduate medical education and training program and prevocational workforce within the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) and ensure that this is in accordance with the requirements of the Australian Medical Council (AMC) through the Postgraduate Medical Education Council of Tasmania (PMCT). This includes liaison with specialist colleges and the University of Tasmania.
Provide guidance and support to the junior medical workforce of Launceston General Hospital.
Facilitate training and education sessions in accordance with Accreditation Standards.
Liaise with the Post Graduate Medical Education Council of Tasmania to deliver a fostering environment and pathway for junior doctors.
Focus of Duties:
To provide direction and leadership for Surgical Services at the Launceston General Hospital with responsibility for providing effective and efficient surgical services, including financial responsibility and maintenance of teaching and research.
Duties:
Overall responsibility for management of Surgical Services providing an efficient and effective surgery service within the Launceston General Hospital.
Ensure that the Department of Surgery aspires to achieve best practice and be seen as a model for regional surgical services through excellence in governance and judicious application of the principles of evidence-based practice.
Overall responsibility to ensure that the main Operating Room Suites and the Day Procedure Unit areas provide an efficient and effective surgery, obstetrics, gynaecology and anaesthesia service within the Launceston General Hospital.
Overall responsibility for the management of surgical outpatient clinics to provide an efficient and effective service.
Undertake a clinical surgical load in a relevant specialty as required.
Responsible for inter and intradepartmental communication and partnership to ensure optimum patient care is provided.
Ensure effective management of all physical, financial and human resources within the Surgical Services at the Launceston General Hospital.
Manage performance, development, supervision and education portfolios for medical staff within the Department of Surgery.
Maintain accreditation in Surgical disciplines with the Relevant Medical Colleges.
Participate in statewide strategic planning committees such as the Tasmanian Statewide Surgical Services Network Committee.
Responsible for ensuring active involvement in safety and quality programs in line with the National Safety and Quality Health Service (NSQHS) Standards by all Department of Surgery staff.
Active involvement in the planning of ongoing and future surgical services and delivery at the Launceston General Hospital and across the Northern Area.

Details of appointment:
Fixed term, full time, day worker position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from as soon as possible for a three year period. *notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $216,300 - $310,389 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 -$310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022
In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
