Classification Title: CLIN AST/ASO PROF Job Description: The Department of Small Animal Clinical Sciences, University of Florida, College of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for one (1) full-time (12 month) clinical-track faculty position in Veterinary Diagnostic Imaging at the Assistant/Associate Professor academic rank. The successful candidate will be part of one of the largest Diagnostic Imaging Services at an academic institution, joining 7 other faculty at a top 10 College of Veterinary Medicine. For the clinical track position, the new faculty’s member primary duties (60 to 70%) will be in the daily clinical imaging section of the Diagnostic Imaging Services in the UF Veterinary Hospitals. Responsibilities will include didactic teaching and clinical training of professional students, graduate students and residents. The individual will participate in and support the teaching and service missions of Diagnostic Imaging in the Veterinary Medical Center. Teaching and clinical responsibilities will be shared with other faculty radiologists. Scholarly productivity is expected and can be accomplished through publication of clinical or educational research studies. Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience of the candidate. Equipment and caseload: Approximately 18,250 small animals/exotics and 1,000 large animals are imaged annually. The beautiful, 100,000 square foot Small Animal Veterinary Hospital is a must see. The Large Animal Hospital includes a dedicated Lameness and Imaging faculty and staff, with a new, state-of-the-art Lameness Arena. The service is completely digital, using Fuji Synapse® RIS for scheduling and reporting, and Merge PACSTM or eUnityTM for image storage and retrieval. The large and freshly remodeled reading room houses 7 diagnostic imaging workstations equipped with 2-4 high-definition diagnostic imaging monitors per station. In addition, 3 diagnostic imaging workstations are located in the Ultrasound suite and 2 diagnostic imaging workstations are located near MRI and the large animal radiographic quality control area for diagnostic review, reporting and consultation. Small Animal Diagnostic Imaging equipment includes 4 digital radiographic suites, 3 of which have an overhead strut system for performing cross-table imaging, all equipped with Canon DR imaging plates, a radiographic suite in the Emergency Room, which also has an overhead strut system for performing cross-table imaging, and a Cannon DR imaging plate and a traditional, small animal radiographic suite in the Primary Care Service with a Sedecal DR imaging plate as well as a portable Sedecal DR unit with a Cannon DR imaging plate in the Small Animal OR. The Ultrasound suite is expansive and newly remodeled, with 4 Ultrasound machines including two Samsung RS85 ultrasound units with Prestige, with strain and shear wave elastography, microvascular flow and CT fusion imaging, and a Samsung RS80A. These three Samsung machines have a total of 11 transducers that are shared between them. In addition, there is a portable Samsung HM70A with three transducers, that it’s used occasionally when performing ultrasounds at ER, ECC or other locations needed. Finally, there is another ultrasound machine used mostly for teaching and student practice which is a Phillips iU22 ultrasound unit with 4 transducers. Large Animal Diagnostic Imaging equipment includes 2 digital radiographic suites with Canon DR imaging plates, one of which is wireless. The hospital is fully equipped for advanced imaging with a Toshiba Titan® 1.5 T 16 channel MR unit equipped for both small and large animal examinations with an upcoming upgrade scheduled for summer 2023 to Canon Vantage Orian. In addition, there is a 160 slice Toshiba Prime® CT equipped for both small and large animal examinations with videofluroscopy; an MiE Scintron IV nuclear scintigraphy unit; and a must see, state-of-the-art catheterization laboratory equipped with a Toshiba Infinix-i® single plane digital C-arm. In fall 2023, there will be un upgrade in the catheterization laboratory room, as well as of the C-arm with a Philips® Azurion 7 Image-guided therapy system and a Philips® Proxi Diagnostic N90 fluoroscopy unit. Current Faculty and Staff: Currently our team consists of an energetic and innovative group of 7 board-certified radiologists, 9 radiology residents and 13 veterinary and human technologists, 8 veterinary assistants, and two full time administrative assistant that supports the imaging services. Diagnostic Imaging is a team-oriented section that is excited about any further development of imaging in collaboration with the talents, experience and ideas of the new faculty member. Residents are provided teleradiology support for all after-hours radiographic interpretation with Idexx, and two residents, including one more experienced resident, are on call for after-hours ultrasound examinations and special procedures. There is always faculty back up during an emergency, if needed.
