    Who Are We Looking For?

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Clinical Lead – Emergency Medicine, Mersey Community Hospital (MCH), to work for the Department of Health (DoH) in the North West region. This role will require the successful applicant to work with the Clinical Director - Emergency Medicine and assist with providing a high level of strategic leadership and direction, ensuring resources are efficiently utilised, services are effectively integrated within the hospital/service and the highest standards of service delivery are achieved in accordance with hospital/service policy directions, service standards and financial targets. In addition, the Clinical Lead will provide specialist emergency medical care to patients attending the Department of Emergency Medicine at the MCH in Latrobe, while some clinical shifts may be undertaken at the North West Regional Hospital, Burnie.

The MCH Emergency Department has approximately 30,000 presentations annually and treat a broad range of patients. The MCH is a subacute hospital with limited general medicine inpatient services, and inpatient rehabilitation unit. The MCH Emergency Department is staffed with both FACEM and FACRRM/FRACGP’s. In our small group we have specialists with extensive experience and qualifications in diverse sub speciality areas including but limited to: toxicology, POCUS, paediatric emergency medicine, humanitarian projects and medicine, disaster medicine, clinical research, palliative care, VAD, medical education and administration. You will have the ability to develop a portfolio that matches your passion and skillset and be able to share this knowledge with trainees and colleagues alike. We are also a statewide hub for the EMET program and opportunities exist to be involved in this outreach educational program to the more remote areas in the NW including King Island and Queenstown.

Applications are invited from Fellows of the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (FACEM). Fellows of the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (FACRRM) and Fellows of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (FRACGP) with relevant Emergency Medicine skills and qualifications are also encouraged to apply. Preference will be given to candidates who have completed the ACEM Associateship in Emergency Medicine Advanced Training Program (AEMTP) and who possess critical care experience.

The DoH offers a comprehensive undergraduate and graduate clinical training program, with close ties to the University of Tasmania through the Rural Clinical School.
