Job Description:

The Launceston Emergency Department and Emergency Medicine Education and Training North (EMET North) are seeking a skilled, adaptable, and dynamic administrator to fill the role of Program Support Officer (PSO) for EMET North, which is based at the Launceston General Hospital (LGH).

EMET is an initiative funded by a Commonwealth grant to the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine (ACEM) for the development of teaching and training opportunities for staff working in Emergency Departments with minimal or no specialist support in Emergency Medicine.

The PSO’s role will involve working closely with the EMET North Clinical Lead in helping to administer and run an education program that goes out to rural hospitals in the Northern Tasmania region (these include Campbell Town, Deloraine, George Town, Scottsdale, St Helens, St Marys, and Flinders Island hospitals). The goal is to help rural doctors, nurses, and ancillary staff to keep up to date with the latest principles and practices in Emergency Medicine.

The other major role for the PSO is to administer the Emergency Medicine Certificate (EMC), Emergency Medicine Diploma (EMD), and Emergency Medicine Advanced Diploma (EMAD) programs, which are run by ACEM in conjunction with EMET to help non-ED specialist doctors gain skills and certification in Emergency Medicine.

The PSO will need to communicate in a timely and effective manner to the various hospitals where EMET sessions are going to be delivered, to the Tasmanian Health Service (THS) administration for budgeting and funding of these sessions, and to ACEM for the EMC/EMD/EMAD candidates.
