We are seeking an unaccredited registrar to work in the O&G unit at Royal Hobart Hospital as member of the Registrar/Basic Trainee/RMO team. The successful applicant will work in the department providing elective and emergency care for all aspects of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

Royal Hobart hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre and has the tertiary NICU in the state. The Women’s and Children’s department at RHH offers a comprehensive service including 24-hour labour ward coverage with over 2000 births per annum, with both simple and complex care requirements. It provides outpatient high risk obstetric management including access to CVS and amniocentesis, advanced ultrasound and early pregnancy assessment in the new fetal monitoring unit. Extensive outpatient Gynaecology services include colposcopy, outpatient hysteroscopy, Urodynamics and Urogynaecology as well as routine gynaecology clinics. All areas of gynaecological surgery are performed.

As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. Weekly education session occurs within the department and include our affiliated specialty from other areas of the hospital.

Salary

$131,000 - $183,500 per annum

Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

Classification

Medical Practitioner Level 5-11 (Registrar/Senior Registrar)

Period of Employment

Fixed term, full time day work, 76 hours per fortnight (+10 hours protected training time) commencing 3 February 2025 until 2 February 2026

Duties

The Registrar is responsible for the day-to-day management of private & public inpatients/outpatients and provides afterhours emergency cover at the hospital as required.

Essential Requirements

Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer of any new criminal convictions and/or if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
