About the Role
The Research Fellow role at the University of Melbourne's Population Interventions Unit leads epidemiological projects within the Scalable Health Intervention Evaluation (SHINE) Program. It involves blending epidemiology with economics and data science to generate policy-relevant information on the health and economic impacts of interventions. The ideal candidate, reporting to the Head of the Population Interventions Unit, will have a PhD qualification, experience managing large-scale research projects, and strong communication skills.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Conceptualisation and specification of interventions (e.g., tobacco, diet, physical activity, etc)
• Literature reviews and synthesis to inform conceptualization and specification of models
• Analyses of data external to the core simulation model to generate model inputs (e.g. smoothing survey data estimates, forecasting trends)
• Estimation of health system costs (e.g. of the intervention itself, of diseases related to the intervention)

Who We Are Looking For
You will excel in this role with your excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, proven ability to work independently and collaboratively, and strong interpersonal and communication abilities. Your attention to detail, along with clear verbal and written communication, ensures productive collaboration and effective documentation within the team.

You will also have:

• A PhD or near completion of PhD in epidemiology (or computer science, economics, demography or closely related discipline (e.g. biostatistics), with a strong ability to rapidly upskill in epidemiology)
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
• Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team to achieve project goals and meet deadlines
• A demonstrated publication track record and strong writing skills
