Job Description:
Assesses and manages patients, including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions utilizing

Research
Provides care to patients on research protocols. Explains research protocols to participants;
responds to patient inquiries regarding protocol; schedules patient participation; ensures compliance
with research protocols; informs referring physicians of protocol requirements. Discusses studies
with patients and study coordinators, and answers questions as they arise.
Implements protocol requirements.
Facilitates patient consents. Identifies appropriate subject groups for research participation:
determines eligibility, prepares Institutional Review Board applications, obtains informed consent,
and enrolls patients in study; submits protocols to Institutional Review Board.
Completes medical visits. Applies an advanced knowledge of a medical specialty area to assess
patient reaction to treatment and/or medication and recommend course of action within the research
parameters to the principal investigator.
Provides quality monitoring for documentations of patient’s visits and adherence to protocol
requirements.
Assists research coordinators with completing CRFs/eCRFs.
Serves as a resource to research coordinators.
Serves as an advocate to all patients and assures their safety.

Salary commensurate with education and experience.
Required Qualifications:

Preferred:
Master's degree with appropriate training as a Nurse Practitioner from an accredited program.
Experience in an ambulatory care setting preferred.

Job Description:
As part of the Division of Pediatric Genetics and Metabolism at UF Health, this OPS Genetic Counseling Assistant position serves a Genetic Counseling Assistant and is part of a team assisting genetic counselors with ordering and tracking genetic testing and metabolic nutritionists with newborn screening laboratory follow up. In the course of their duties the incumbent will, under the direction of the Genetic Counselors and metabolic nutritionists be responsible for the coordination of insurance authorization and genetic/metabolic testing coordination for the purposes of genetic diagnostic testing and newborn screening follow-up.
Genetic Test Coordination:
Prepares patient records for clinical genetic testing and research testing.
Facilitates sample collection (blood, saliva, etc.) and prepares the genetic testing kit for shipping.
Works closely with various laboratories during the pre-authorization process.
Executes requests for primary care physician’s medical necessity letters.
Understands the genetic testing criteria as it pertains to different laboratories and insurance companies.
Understands Medicare guidelines for testing pre-authorization.
Assists in necessary preparation of documentation for test processing.
Develops and maintains relationships with nationwide genetic, medical and research laboratories.
Guides patients through genetic testing process: completing paperwork, facilitating sample collection (blood, saliva), and preparing the genetic testing kit for shipping.
Coordinates sample collection.
Assures the safe package of blood samples, saliva samples and tumor samples to the appropriate labs.
Assures the timely arrival of test results and notifies the genetic counselor about any problems/delays in testing.
Maintains a database of testing status for all patients with regular review for current status.
Florida Newborn Screening Coordination:
This position provides assistance to Genetic Counselors and the metabolic nutritionists in receiving, tracking and coordination of follow up of referrals received from the State of Florida’s Newborn screening program.
Ordering Metabolic Formula and other supplies as necessary:
Collaborate with metabolic nutritionists in the authorization, ordering and shipping of metabolic formulas, low protein foods and other supplies for patients with inborn errors of metabolism.
Expected Salary:
$19.00/hour; commensurate with education and experience
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent and two years of relevant office experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree with an interest in public health, genetics, nutrition and/or counseling
