The Tasmanian Cardiothoracic Unit is seeking suitable applicants for the 2027 training year as an Unaccredited Registrar in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Tasmanian Cardiothoracic Unit. The unit is based at the Royal Hobart Hospital and serves as a tertiary care facility for the entire state of Tasmania. The unit manages a variety of cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures with the registrar having good all-round exposure to Cardiothoracic surgery. The position involves peri-operative management of patients, outpatient clinics, operative surgery as well as teaching and supervising interns and medical students who rotate through the unit. There are ample opportunities for research projects during the year.
Hobart is the capital city of Tasmanian and with a 1:3 on call, there is a good opportunity for work life balance as well as working towards a career in Cardiothoracic surgery.
The Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH) is located in the beautiful waterfront city of Hobart, framed between the Derwent River and Kunanyi / Mt Wellington and offers access to fine dining, impressive arts and a wide choice of accommodation within a short commute. The city also provides a great starting point to explore Tasmania's pristine wilderness and enjoy a variety of outdoor activities.
Salary
$138,978 - $194,675 per annum
Salary range is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025

Why Your Role MattersClient Services Support (CSS) are the frontline support services for UNSW Canberra’s Information, Communication & Technical Services (ICTS) Unit, providing responsive and proactive IT services supporting UNSW Canberra’s mission of promoting lifelong learning through innovation and engagement whilst leveraging our location to build meaningful relationships across Defence, industry, government and academia.
This position has a lead role in the CSS team and is responsible for the day-to-day management of client-facing IT Support Officers, delivery of service requests and resolution of incidents.
Who You Are (skills and experience):
Relevant tertiary degree in a related field with subsequent relevant experience, or at least 5 years’ experience combined with training in a related field, or equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training, and experience.
Demonstrated advanced understanding of a range of IT systems and applications including Windows operating systems, Microsoft cloud services and IT Service Management tools.
Advanced written and verbal communication skills, with a high level of attention to detail for deliverables produced.
Well-developed time management skills, with a demonstrated ability to respond to changing priorities, manage multiple tasks and meet competing deadlines by using judgement and initiative.
Sound experience in leading, managing and mentoring a team.
Exposure to Agile and/or Lean methodologies and project management practices.

The Team
The Workforce Strategy and Planning Unit (WSPU) provides statewide leadership in cross‑sectoral health workforce strategy, policy and planning, including medical workforce policy and strategy, to build a sustainable, skilled and future‑ready workforce for Tasmania. The Unit delivers integrated, evidence‑based workforce planning aligned with service and infrastructure planning, leads implementation and monitoring of the Health Workforce Sustainability Strategy and Plan, and ensures alignment with national workforce reforms and priorities. The Workforce Planning Team is responsible for the delivery of strategic, integrated workforce planning that is aligned with the Health Workforce Sustainability Strategy and Plan 2025-2030.
The Role
This position provides specialised technical expertise to deliver integrated workforce planning and analysis that supports the long‑term sustainability of Tasmania’s health workforce. It focuses on developing long‑term and annual workforce planning outputs using established and emerging methodologies, applying quantitative and qualitative analysis to model scenarios and assess sustainability. Working closely with data specialists and key stakeholders, the position interprets workforce data, refines planning assumptions, contributes to improved planning tools and processes, and prepares clear reports and briefings that translate technical insights into practical, actionable recommendations aligned with service and community needs.
You will need
Expertise in workforce planning, applying established methodologies to develop integrated and sustainable workforce plans.
Strong analytical capability to interpret and synthesise complex quantitative and qualitative data into evidence‑based scenarios and recommendations.
Effective stakeholder engagement skills, with experience coordinating discussions, incorporating feedback and informing planning analysis.

Providing a high standard of oral health care to children and young adults;
Delivering health education, health promotion and preventative outreach programs; and
Supporting individuals and communities to increase control over their oral health.

Salary

Allied Health Scholarship Program
If you are expecting to graduate from mid-2026 through to mid-2027, you will be offered an Allied Health Scholarship. The Allied Health Scholarship Program provides up to $25,000 to support the costs of studying.
Scholarship recipients will receive $15,000 in Year 1 of the Program and a further $10,000 in Year 4 of the Program, following completion of three years’ service with the Tasmanian Health Service.
Scholarship recipients must accept an offer of permanent employment with the Tasmanian Health Service and sign a Scholarship Agreement. Please refer to the Allied Health Scholarship Program Guidelines for more information and complete the Expression of Interest Form.
