About the role
Manage the King Island field centre operations and resources for the conservation and sustainable use of natural and cultural resources.
Hours per fortnight
76.0 hours per fortnight (minimum 60.8 hours, by negotiation).
Period of appointment
12 months.
Essential requirements
A Workplace Level 2 First Aid Certificate.
A minimum of five years’ experience in reserve management or equivalent experience.
Desirable requirements
A current motor vehicle driver’s licence.

The Team:
The Launceston General Hospital services the community of northern Tasmania and the group of anaesthetists forming the Department of Anaesthesia at the LGH provide care to patients of all ages for elective and emergency procedures including surgery, endoscopy, obstetrics and acute pain service. The anaesthetists work closely with all clinical specialties to afford the high-quality care which is constantly reviewed by stringent quality assurance processes and ongoing education at all levels.
The Role:
The Deputy Director provides vital assistance to the Department Director in maintaining and supporting the key processes to achieve efficient running of this department. These responsibilities are fully outlined in the Statement of Duties and include:
Clinical leadership
Admin support
Roster oversight
Dept representation

Details of appointment:
Fixed term full time, day worker (with on call) position, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing from October 2026 for a three-year period.
*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant
Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time and casual vacancies.
Salary:
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $222,789 - $319,701 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 -$319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025
In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
Salary packaging options include a range of benefits like living expenses up to $9,010 and $2,650 in meals and entertainment every year
Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle or motor vehicle allowance of $28,786 per annum
Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%. *Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
Management Allowance up to 7.5% is applied to this role.
Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,974 per annum
Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.
Professional development and accelerated pathways.
A range of leave entitlements, including study leave and Professional Development Support.
Fitness Passport – You, and your family can access 40+ fitness facilities across Tasmania for just $14.50 per week per person, or $28.05 for a family.

Classification Minimum Requirements:
A Ph.D. in biomedical informatics, computer science or a related field. Working experience with large language models, data science using EHRs, machine learning, data mining, and natural language processing are preferred.
Job Description:
Develop large language models and other methods and tools to effectively use electronic health record (EHR) data; apply ML methods (especially deep learning methods) to solve critical medical problems.
Implement methods into software that meets research needs, manage and update source codes as needed. Work in an interdisciplinary team of informaticists, programmers, information quality experts, statisticians, and researchers during software development.
Participate in design, implementation, and reporting of research and evaluation studies. Contributions to scientific reports, conference papers and journal articles are expected, including documentation of method, presentation of data, and participation in interpretation of results.
Participate in collaborative projects, contribute to the data processing, software development, and other collaborative efforts.
Expected Salary:
$61,008 - 65,000
Required Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in biomedical informatics, computer science or a related field. Working experience with large language models, data science using EHRs, machine learning, data mining, and natural language processing are preferred.
Preferred:
Ph.D. in Computer Science, Biomedical Informatics, or related field. Experiences in natural language processing, large language models, machine learning (deep learning), and software development are preferred. Excellent formal and interpersonal communication skills, and the ability to communicate effectively to a broad range of audiences such as faculty members, PIs.
• Python, Java, or similar language experience.
• Familiar with popular machine learning packages, e.g., Pytorch.
