The Role
The Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist provide specialised mental health care to young people within Tasmania’s CYMHS, working across community, extended and inpatient settings. The role includes assessment, treatment, consultation, and supervision of junior staff, while contributing to multidisciplinary teamwork, clinical governance, and service development. It also involves stakeholder collaboration, quality improvement, education, and maintaining high standards aligned with national guidelines and safety requirements and regulations
You will need
Deliver comprehensive psychiatric assessment and treatment for children and youth across community, outreach, and inpatient settings. Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team, support clinical governance, and build strong partnerships with healthcare providers. Supervise and teach junior staff, contribute to quality improvement and service development, participate in education, and maintain high standards of care, safety, and clinical documentation.

Specialist Medical Practitioners
Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1- Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 $222,789 - $305,539 per annum, pro rata + 12% superannuation + access to salary packaging
Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $309,222 - $319,701 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award
Salary range is in accordance with Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025
In addition, the following allowances and benefit, calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:
Participation in Private Practice Scheme 35% or allowance in lieu of private practice schemes 35%
Subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.
Travel and relocation assistance support available up to $15,000 for eligible appointees from overseas, and up to $10,000 for appointees from interstate.

Position Features:
Participate in an on-call Roster and undertake call-back work as required
Work outside normal hours and weekend work, which may include ward rounds, as required
Intrastate travel will be required
Staff employed against this Statement of Duties as a Visiting Medical Practitioner will be employed in accordance with the Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Agreement and remunerated accordingly.

The Team
Critical Care and Retrieval (CCR) provide a statewide Prehospital and Retrieval Medicine (PHRM) clinical service, as defined by the Tasmanian Role Delineation Framework (TRDF). Our critical care (medical team) responses provide pre-hospital and in-facility treatment and interfacility transport for seriously sick and injured people. We also provide medical coordination and on-scene clinical support for mass casualty incidents and disasters, and a Critical Care Management and Advice Service (CCMAS), for paramedics, doctors and nurses, and clinical coordination of high-risk interfacility transfers conducted by CCR and non-CCR crews.
CCR is a mature PHRM service that has PHRM Training Program Accreditation from the Australasian College for Emergency Medicine, for delivery of both the Associateship in PHRM and as a Category A Special Skills Placement.
The Hobart base, where these positions are based, provides CCMAS, Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), wilderness rescue and road responses with on-base doctors employed by Ambulance Tasmania (AT).
The Role
The Prehospital and Retrieval Medicine Registrar (Hobart) is responsible for the provision of high-quality medical care to critically ill and injured patients in out-of-hospital environments and referring facilities. This includes the provision of initial management advice, inter-hospital transport coordination and direct clinical care on scene and during transport by road and/or helicopter.
Training Requirement
Successful applicants will be required to undertake a full-time training program during their first month of employment. Upon successful completion of the training period, employees will revert to their contracted hours as outlined in their Instrument of appointment.
Salary
$138,978 - $194,675 per annum
Salary range is in accordance with the Medical Practitioners Agreement 2025

Duties
Initiate, maintain, and be responsible for, the clinical care of patients in out-of-hospital and hospital environments, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Provide clinical advice for paramedics, and retrieval coordination advice to Ambulance Tasmania Communications Centre staff.
Maintain accurate, timely and comprehensive medical records.
Actively participate in relevant quality improvement projects and clinical audits.
Continually progress skills and knowledge, through both their specialty training program and opportunities provided in the workplace.
Desirable Requirements
At least 5 full years of post-graduate experience, including 6 months in each of emergency medicine, paediatrics, anaesthesia, and intensive care
Current APLS (Advanced Paediatric Life Support) certification
Current Advanced Life Support or equivalent Emergency Life Support course certification and up-to-date resuscitation skills
Has successfully completed all fellowship examinations relevant to their training program and employment and is within 1 year of obtaining specialist fellowship
Enrolled in the Diploma of Prehospital and Retrieval Medicine
Essential Requirements
General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
A Current Driver’s Licence
Enrolled in a critical care speciality training program (Emergency Medicine, Anaesthesia or Intensive Care) or the Australian College of Rural and Remote Medicine (ACRRM) specialist training program
A high level of physical fitness and ability to swim such that the applicant can function safely in the pre-hospital, wilderness and aeromedical environments and maintain helicopter underwater egress training (HUET) currency.
