The Team
The Department of Medical Imaging (DMI) at Royal Hobart Hospital is a critical tertiary service providing comprehensive diagnostic and interventional imaging to support acute, sub-acute, outpatient, and statewide referral services across Tasmania. The department delivers a full suite of imaging modalities, including general radiography, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), ultrasound, fluoroscopy, interventional radiology, nuclear medicine, and intra-operative imaging, operating across extended hours to meet emergency, inpatient, and elective demand. DMI plays a pivotal role in enabling timely diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical decision-making for high-acuity services such as Emergency, Intensive Care, Surgery, Oncology, Stroke, and Trauma. The department’s focus is on delivering safe, high-quality, and patient-centred imaging services while maintaining compliance with regulatory standards, supporting workforce capability, optimising workflows, and responding to increasing demand, technological advancement, and system-wide reform priorities.
The Role
As a Specialist Nuclear Medicine Technologist, you will deliver high-quality Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT imaging services for inpatients and outpatients at the Royal Hobart Hospital. You will perform complex and advanced imaging procedures, contribute to clinical leadership, and support the delivery of best-practice patient care.
In this role, you will:
Perform specialised Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT imaging, including complex and novel procedures
Prepare radiopharmaceuticals and undertake laboratory-based activities
Provide supervision, training, and guidance to less experienced staff
Contribute to protocol development, quality improvement, and research initiatives
Support a safe, high-quality clinical environment aligned with professional and organisational standards
Participate in on-call services and ongoing professional development
You will need
Demonstrated experience in complex Nuclear Medicine and PET/CT imaging
Strong knowledge of contemporary techniques, equipment, and best practice
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-centred approach
Proven ability to supervise, train, and support other staff

Details of appointment
Fixed term, full time, day worker (with on-call) position, working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible until 1 June 2027.
*Notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Salary
$117,272 to $126,182 per annum + our Employer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

The Role

The Team
Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital, and the Specialised Medical Orderlies within the RHH provide a valuable service as support staff to a large multidisciplinary clinical team. In 2025, the Medical Orderly Department expanded its service to also provide support to the Repatriation Centre site. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH works closely with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. All our services work closely together to focus on delivering excellence in healthcare to achieve improved outcomes for our consumers, our workforce, and the Tasmanian community.
The Role
In accordance with Agency policies and procedures, and infection control and quality improvement guidelines, the Specialised Medical Orderly will:
Provide Medical Orderly services and assistance to Medical, Nursing, and Para-Medical staff in the lifting, positioning and general care of patients.
Transport of patients within the hospital environment by means of wheelchair, trolleys and beds.
As part of the Code Black Response Team, the Specialised Medical Orderly will assist the clinical team in the management of an aggressive incident.
As directed, conduct internal hospital security functions.
As directed, provide orderly services in the Department of Emergency Medicine, Radiology and Operating Theatres.
You will need
Knowledge of skills required in manual handling techniques, following Work Health and Safety principles, including the skills required to safely lift and position spinal patients and caring for acute care patients ie. ICU, CCU, CT ICU.
Knowledge and experience in the practices, equipment and procedures relating to Medical Orderly involvement in patient care, together with a knowledge of medical orderly procedures for the Department of Emergency Medicine, Radiology, Operating Theatres and hospital mortuary, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
Knowledge and experience in emergency procedures (Fire, Bomb Threats, Evacuation and Aggression) and understanding of Hospital Code Black Response Team procedures, or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
