Job Description:

Following an announcement by the Tasmanian Government, a Public Health Direction was issued on 10 September 2021 requiring that all Health Workers are vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.

Applicants for any position within the Department of Health must be prepared to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment.

The Team:

The Occupational Therapy department is a dynamic and creative team who enable people of all ages to participate in everyday activities they find meaningful. The Allied Health Assistant assists in delivering OT services under the direction of an occupational therapist. This position works with adult patients at LGH who are admitted to the surgical and medical wards or who are attending outpatient surgical clinics.

Details of Appointment

Permanent full time day worker position working 76 hours per fortnight

Alternatively, multiple part time day worker positions working 38 hours per fortnight

Salary: $58,323-$61,704 per annum + 10% superannuation + access to salary packaging


Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

  1. Certificate IV in Health Service Assistance (Allied Health Assistance) or equivalent qualification
  2. Tertiary student of a relevant and approved allied health course of study at a recognised tertiary institution

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
    • crimes of violence
    • sex related offences
    • serious drug offences
    • crimes involving dishonesty
  2. Identification check
  3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
