Job Description:

UF Information Technology (UFIT) is currently seeking an intermediate-level User Services Systems Administrator II to join Research Computing, a unit within UFIT.

Employment with UFIT provides an excellent opportunity to work with other employees dedicated to and focused on understanding and interpreting the technological needs of the University of Florida’s innovative and inspirational community.

UFIT Research Computing provides comprehensive training, consulting, advanced software installation and support, and proposal support for researchers that use HiPerGator, the University of Florida supercomputer, including the HPG-AI graphics supercomputer and HPG-RV restricted data system. UFIT Research Computing is organized into five teams: DevOps, Services, Training, Architecture, and AI Support.

This position provides user support, restricted system compliance documentation, and system administration services, supporting complex, high-performance and data-intensive computing resources operated by UF Research Computing in pursuit of advanced scientific, engineering, and scholarly research.

Some key responsibilities and characteristics of this position are:

  • Service request triage (basic support and request reassignments for advanced issues) and general support.
  • Application installs and troubleshooting on HiPerGator.
  • Projects to develop and maintain in-house tools and IT infrastructure.
  • Reference data and database maintenance, account management, batch job tracking and reporting, system management, etc.
  • Guidance and support to users in setting up workflows for optimal use of the systems.
  • Assist with onboarding of new users to the general and restricted computing systems. Create and maintain documentation to help users make effective use of the system, mostly addressing the unfamiliar steps required for compliance.
  • Create and maintain the required documentation for systems that allow processing and storage of restricted data, i.e. data covered by laws, regulations, or contractual requirements.
  • Aid in generating regular reports required for compliance.
  • Assist with documenting the investments, privileges, role assignments, and resource allocations of different faculty research groups and their projects

Expected Salary:

$51,500 – $57,000; commensurate based on education and experience. In addition, the University of Florida offers a very competitive benefits package. https://benefits.hr.ufl.edu/

Minimum Requirements:

Associate’s degree and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and four years of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

The ideal candidate will possess the following education, experience and skills:

  • AS/AA in an IT-related field or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience with system administration, application development, and user support.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Able to explain complex, highly technical information to non-technical colleagues using clear, simple language.

Preferred skills, expertise and experience:

  • At least two years of experience with user support on Windows and Linux are preferred.
  • Experience with compliance frameworks such as NIST, RMF, CSF, and NIST 800-53 and 800-171 is preferred.
