Job Description:

Design and management of UNIX and Windows workstations deployed to support the Department coursework and research efforts in ECE, inclusive of procurement and testing of software and hardware on systems. Automate system updates across a wide variety of host configurations to address departmental and workgroup policy. Educate end users with policies of proper system usage. Maintain a secure and reliable means for data storage for public or private distribution depending on the scope of a project. Ensure data accuracy and confidentiality for sensitive and nondisclosure information. Provide suggestive measures for budgetary considerations for long term Information Technology decisions.

Assist with the management of critical resources for the ECE department that address the requirements provided and those determined through appropriate scoping. Investigate emerging technologies that may provide a benefit in usage within critical resources applications. Design, implement and manage IT systems as directed by Supervisor and Department Administration. Configure software to provide secure access to Information Technology resources for staff, faculty, and students within the department unit. Comply with Security Manager requirements for systems, databases, data access, and data contingency plan. Propose and implement security systems to ensure data access is limited to appropriate personnel and kept confidential.

Act as liaison between the ECE department’s hardware/software infrastructure and the other computer services or centers at UF and elsewhere, affirming that software and hardware from the department integrates well into the UF computer systems infrastructure and can be used at other institutions that host collaborations with the ECE department. Assist in defining, selecting and acquiring hardware and software needed for the ECE department.

Perform other duties as required or as assigned by the Department IT Manager.

Expected Salary:

$75,000-$85,000 annually; commensurate with qualifications and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and two years of relevant experience; or a high school diploma or equivalent and six years of experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with the administration of RHEL, Centos, Ubuntu or other UNIX based operating systems in a networked environment and the use of management software such as Ansible.

Ability to manage and scale KVM, Containers, SQL, HTTP, NFS/AFP/SMB, DNS, SSSD, DHCP, VMware ESX, Microsoft Hyper-V, Authentication, and Networked Storage Servers.

Knowledge of common intrusion tactics and how to secure critical services.

Ability to install and/or remove software and debugging of code on workstations.

Good documentation skills.

Experience with Perl, C, and shell scripting.
