Job Description:

Following an announcement by the Tasmanian Government, a Public Health Direction was issued on 10 September 2021 requiring that all Health Workers are vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.

Applicants for any position within the Department of Health must be prepared to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment.


$66,421 to $91,807 pro-rata per annum in accordance with the Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service Agreement) 2019

  • Access to the Grade 4 salary range $82,129 - $86,857 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4.

Period of Employment

Permanent, part-time, day work, working 30.4 hours per fortnight commencing 1 February 2022.

The Registered Nurse - Sexual Health Service:

  • Strengthens health in sexual health and other related conditions through the provision of safe quality, clinically appropriate nursing care in partnership with patients/clients, their families and other health professionals.

  • Provide clinical advice, assessment and interventions based on best practice in the health care management of Sexual Health within the defined community practice area.

In the role of Registered Nurse – Sexual Health Service you will:

  • In collaboration with members of the healthcare team plan, implement and evaluate patient/client care.

  • Working in an interdisciplinary setting in collaboration with other members of the sexual health team, as well as autonomously provide appropriate assessments and management as clinically indicated in the area of sexual health and other related conditions.

  • Responsible for collecting blood samples in accordance with hospital and laboratory policies, and federal/state and local regulations.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty

2. Identification check

3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check

Desirable Requirements

  • Sexual Health, HIV and/or Family Planning experience and willingness to complete a post graduate certificate in Sexual Health and HIV

  • Hold a Tasmanian Nurse Immuniser qualification
