Job Description:

Following an announcement by the Tasmanian Government, a Public Health Direction was issued on 10 September 2021 requiring that all Health Workers are vaccinated against COVID-19. This step is critical in protecting both our health workforce and vulnerable Tasmanians in our care.

Applicants for any position within the Department of Health must be prepared to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of their employment.

The Royal Hobart Hospital’s Acute Medical Services (AMS) is seeking Registered Nurses to join its five inpatient units, including a brand new 24 bed General Medical Ward. Working in Tasmania’s only tertiary referral hospital ensures a wide variety of case work.

AMS has the following inpatient clinical areas:

  • General Medicine incorporating a Rapid Assessment Medical Unit (RAMU)
  • Respiratory Medicine
  • Subspeciality Medicine incorporating Renal, Stroke, Rheumatology, Endocrinology, Dermatology, and Gastroenterology
  • Cardiology incorporating cardiothoracic surgery

Registered Nurse, Grade 3-4


$66,421 to $91,807 per annum

  • Access to the Grade 4 salary range $85,950 - $91,807 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4.


Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019

Period of Employment

Permanent, full time and part time, shift work (fully rotational), working up to 76 hours per fortnight

  • Knowledge to care for patients with general medical, subspeciality medicine, cardiology, and cardiothoracic conditions.
  • Ability to work within a team environment and mentor/preceptorship of others.
  • Understanding of the process of patient flow and discharge planning.
  • Ability to work collaboratively, as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Recognition and management of deteriorating patients.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
