What is the Role?

SSE has a clear strategy to be a leading energy company in a low carbon world. Our success hinges on the delivery of some pretty impressive projects across our low-carbon portfolio which includes onshore and offshore wind, hydrogen, CCS, our EV infrastructure and the development of a clean energy distribution and transmission network - to name a few!

Following our commitment to invest £7.5 billion in low carbon projects over the next 5 years, we are establishing a new independent technology risk assurance function reporting to the Director of Group Risk & Audit, to focus on assessing the effectiveness of internal controls across SSE's current, emerging and future technology risk profile. This is a new, senior role requiring a forward thinking, technologically savvy risk leader who can help us establish this new function and helping us future-proof our assurance model taking into account emerging technologies such as AI, blockchain, robotics.

The initial priorities of the role will be to develop our existing cyber security assurance team, and define a strategy to implement data analytics within the risk and audit function. The longer-term aim is to develop an agile assurance framework across SSE to understand and manage our changing technology risk profile. Critical to this role will be developing a partnership with the businesses, providing trust and confidence to the group's most strategic technology enabled and digitally dependent priorities, ensuring effective risk management and assurance frameworks.

In addition to the above, your key responsibilities will include:-

- Collaborating and developing strong partnerships with senior management across SSE, providing trust and confidence to the group's most strategic technology enabled and digitally dependent priorities.

- Managing, the Technology Assurance team, with a focus on developing a strategic resourcing model and building internal capabilities to deliver a future-focussed, pragmatic and digitally-secure assurance service.

- Develop our assurance model around cyber security, and initiate the implementation of analytics within Group Audit.

- Oversee the development and implementation of a Data Analytics strategy to support assurance over effectiveness of internal controls.

- Work collaboratively with key business stakeholders, particularly CISO and CRIS teams, in the delivery of a robust technology risk assurance framework.

What do I need?

This is a very exciting opportunity for you to bring your vision and passion for current, future and emerging technologies, and apply your experience of embedding technology-based assurance, risk-based auditing and risk management frameworks to SSE.

In this role, we'd love you to have:-

- A relevant qualification (e.g. CISSP or CISA), coupled with significant, relevant up-to-date knowledge of technical cyber security and data analytics.

- The ability to balance practical risk, assurance and insight of current date technology issues, as well as understanding of and engagement in the technology risk horizon to protect and enable the group's strategic goals.

- Experience of building positive relationships across the organisation, quickly gaining credibility and providing confidence our senior teams, over the management of technology risks and effectiveness of controls.

- Good knowledge of the specific technologies commonly employed within SSE (e.g. UNIX, LINUX, MS Active Director, MS Windows, Oracle and SQL Server databases), as well an understand of the future technologies that may complement our strategic goals.

- Personal interest and passion for staying up-date with new technological advancements, and willingness to participate in any necessary training / development that will complement your role.
