Job Description:

The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Consultant Psychiatrist vacancy at the Wilfred Lopes Centre for Forensic Mental Health.

The Centre provides professional and appropriate care and treatment in a secure health setting and is staffed by highly trained specialist mental health nurses, psychiatrists, allied health professionals and support staff.

Patients are provided with modern, professional and highly specialised psychiatric care and treatment. Treatment will be based on individually tailored programs designed to support independence and dignity and, minimise the ill effects of long-term care.

Salary

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicants dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Classification

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 in accordance with the Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2017

  • Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1, 2 and 3 as described in the Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award.

Period of Employment

Permanent full-time day work (with on-call), working 76 hours per fortnight.

Duties

The Consultant Psychiatrist works in collaboration with other psychiatrists and mental health professionals within Mental Health Services providing a wide range of psychiatric services to inmates within the State-wide Prison Service, patients of the Wilfred Lopes Centre and to clients of the Community Forensic Mental Health Service.

You will function as a fully qualified and self-motivated professional capable of providing clinical leadership within a multi-disciplinary team.

Essential Requirements

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check

Desirable Requirements

  • Current Driver’s Licence
