Salary: up to £70,000 - £79,900 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + bonus.

Working Pattern: 2 year Fixed term contract | Full Time | Flexible working patterns available

What is the Role?

Responsible for ensuring that SSE derives maximum value from large, complex and high profile programmes. Critical to the success of this role is the ability to proactively engage, scope, resource, deliver and embed the required business and technical change into the organisation, creating sustainable business solutions. The role requires excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, is dependent upon collaborative partnering with business, IT and other functional capabilities, and the management of external suppliers where necessary.

Fundamental to the role is the adoption, enhancement and ongoing advocacy of SSE's standard project delivery process and governance procedures and accountability for long term decision making which will be required during all stages of the transformation programme.

You'll be responsible for managing the business analysis, project management and software development staff within the Programme team, whilst heading up a major and complex programme and taking accountability for the planning, structure and execution of the projects within it.

This is a high-profile role where you'll act as a communication conduit to executive sponsors and steering committees, providing regular progress updates, flagging any concerns and articulating key information in a methodical and consistent manner. You'll need to establish and maintain highly effective relationships within projects, and other project/business teams to ensure that interfaces work correctly. You'll be accountable for managing both internal and 3rd party resources, quality assurance and the overall integrity of the programme.

Main accountabilities:

- Lead multiple project teams, managing and developing them as part of SSE's ongoing capability development and succession planning

- Runs multiple complex projects/programmes from Opportunity Assessment through design and development to production as an ongoing service

- Ensure compliance with all business, corporate and regulatory demands, including accountability; for all expenditure within the Digital programme.

- Establish business case driven propositions and initiatives. Act as an advocate and champion to senior management up to and including board level

- Reviews and approves project plans for conformance to programme strategy and programme plan and schedule, managing dependencies and interfaces between projects

- Plans and monitors the programme's overall progress and schedules project deliverables, goals and milestones; resolves any issues and instigates corrective action as appropriate

- Takes responsibility for the quality assurance and overall integrity of the programme

- Financial responsibility for budgets monitoring expenditure and costs against deliverables and realised benefits as programme develops including significant 3rd party spend in line with SSE procurement, financial control, ethical behaviour and other applicable policies.

- Ensures the delivery of new products and/or services from the projects is to the appropriate level of quality, on time and within budget, according to the programme plan

- Designs and maintains technical and project documentation

- Risk Assessment of programme and subsequent management to ensure successful delivery incorporating risk mitigation strategies and contingency planning

- Acts as communication conduit to executive sponsors and programme steering committee and conducts period briefings/status updates; at regular intervals report progress to the Programmes Manager

- Takes responsibility for the quality assurance, governance and overall integrity of the programme

What do I need?

You'll need to have proven experience of project, programme or IT management in a complex environment as well as experience of managing multiple parties including Senior Project Managers and 3rd party vendors on high-profile and technologically innovative enterprise solutions.

With demonstrable people management skills, you'll illustrate your ability to manage large teams across multiple sites, creating a sense of teamwork and encouraging innovation and pride in all work delivered.

You'll also need:

- Scheduling and budgeting experience, as well as a high level of planning aptitude

- Experience of having shaped business cases and delivering real benefits to an organisation

- Experience of working in a matrix organisation

- Experience of data and analytics solutions

- Ability to deal with ambiguity

- Ability to negotiate timelines and other delivery metrics around projects

- Ability to delegate appropriately and effectively

- Resilience with the ability to work well under pressure
