Job Description:

The Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics is seeking candidates for a full-time position consisting of a broad range of laboratory and administrative duties. This position requires a strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions with good work ethic. Some prior laboratory experience is required in order to build upon for basic molecular/biochemical techniques and histological analyses associated with the study of muscular dystrophy.

Job responsibilities will include but not be limited to:

Laboratory (the majority of the time in this position will be devoted to laboratory duties):

  • Cryosectioning, staining, and imaging tissues for histochemistry, brightfield, and immunofluorescent microscopy
  • Extracting DNA, RNA, and protein from biological samples for genotyping, PCR, qPCR, and Western Blot analysis
  • Molecular biology, including digestion of samples, setting up and running PCR, gel extraction, gel imaging
  • Preparing research drugs for administration
  • Administering mouse treatments
  • Assisting lab manager with chores around the lab, such as cleaning and organizing of lab areas, updating inventories, supply management, autoclaving, etc.
  • Communicating and collaborating effectively as part of a team

Administrative:

  • Assisting with seminar series such as creating flyers and itineraries for seminar speakers, editing and posting seminar recordings, as well as assisting with escorting speaker and presentation set up on seminar days
  • Assistance with conference organization/preparation, document preparation, website updates, and general correspondence
  • Other miscellaneous administrative duties such as regular website updates, creating and updating spreadsheets and various documents.
Expected Salary:

$11 - $14 per hour

Minimum Requirements:
  • High school diploma
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Prior laboratory experience
