Job Description:

Focus of Duties:

In accordance with hospital policy, procedures and statutory regulations the Staff Specialist will:

  • Provide inpatient and community-based services and work within the Aged Care Team as directed by the Head of Geriatric Medicine.
  • Provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to Geriatric Medicine patients.
  • Actively pursue improved outcomes for Geriatric Medicine patients by participating in teaching and research relevant to Geriatric Medicine.


Salary

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Classification

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 in accordance with the Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019

  • Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1, 2 and 3 as described in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award.

Period of Employment

Fixed term, full-time, day work (with on-call), working 76 hours per fortnight commencing 5 September 2021 until 4 September 2022

Essential Requirements

Registration/licences that are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer of any new criminal convictions and/or if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check
