Job Description:

The Wilmot Botanical Gardens is now accepting applications for a part-time student garden assistant to help with the outdoor garden maintenance. The scope of work will also include occasional assistance with special events as needed. This position is open only to those with a Federal Work-Study permit for the Spring 2021 semester. This student will work directly with and report to the Business Manager and Head Gardener. Experience in gardening or horticultural background preferred, but not required.

Job duties will include:

  • Keeping pathways and planting beds clear of garden debris
  • Maintenance of sodded regions to include weeding and raking
  • Maintenance of planting beds to include mulching, planting and weeding
  • Watering and other plant care as needed
  • Assistance with the set-up and break down of conference room furnishings
  • Assistance with special events/rentals in the gardens or conference center
  • Occasional weekend or evening hours (prior notice will be provided)
  • Performing other tasks related to garden maintenance as needed
  • Occasionally performing basic clerical tasks as needed to support staff

This position is for the Summer 2021 semester, but may extend into future semesters. This is a part-time position offering 15-20 hours per week.

This is for multiple positions.

Expected Salary:

$10.00 per hour

Minimum Requirements:

This position is open to all students who are eligible to work on campus and will be employed through Federal Work-Study (FWS) and must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average. Registered students are employed on a part-time basis, up to 20 hours per week. A Federal Work-Study award for the Summer 2021 semester is required and must be uploaded electronically to be considered for this position.

Preferred Qualifications:Preference will be given to those with gardening or horticultural backgrounds.
