Job Description:

50% Independently carry out well-designed experiments using plant tissue culture, biolistic gene transfer and molecular biology techniques.

20% Collect, analyze, and prepare data for the purpose of laboratory reports, presentation of posters or papers at the appropriate scientific meetings, publication of abstracts and manuscripts and to aid in the design of future experiments.

20% In conjunction with principal investigator, postdoctoral research associate or biological scientist III, design tissue culture and plant molecular biology experiments that are required to meet the objectives. Studies will include laboratory projects aimed at the genetic improvement of grasses through tissue culture, genetic transformation and genome editing.

10% Monitor and purchase lab supplies and process receipts.

Expected Salary:

$15 hour, commensurate with education and experience

Minimum Requirements:

Associates degree in an appropriate area; or a high school diploma or equivalent and two years of related experience. Appropriate college course work or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least 1 year experience with plant tissue culture techniques, including donor plant management, excision of meristematic explants under aseptic conditions, induction of embryogenesis from totipotent cells, selection of embryogenic cells, regeneration of embryogenic tissues to plants, molecular analysis of transgenic plants including PCR, ELISA, immune-chromatography, establishment of transgenic plants in soil. Ability to trouble-shoot experimental problems and work independently and in a team is important. Excellent communication skills are required.
