Job Description:

We are looking for Clinical Nurse Specialists to join our team in the new Mental Health Short Stay Unit. This exciting role will provide clinical leadership, specialised assessments on case by case basis and improve consumer outcomes in a fast paced environment.

$92,321 to $97,577 pro-rata per annum

Period of Employment

Permanent, full time and part time, shift work (fully rotational), working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible

Please note that there are multiple positions available and part time hours may be considered.

Duties

The Clinical Nurse Specialist – Mental Health Short Stay Unit (MHSSU):

  • Works in conjunction with unit staff, the Mental Health Inpatient Unit, the Royal Hobart Hospital Emergency Department (ED), Alcohol and Drug Services and Community Mental Health Services to deliver improved outcomes for MHSSU clients and individuals presenting to the ED with mental illness and requiring specialist assessment.

  • Is a clinical expert who acts as a specialist resource for nursing, medical and allied health staff involved in the management of patients with mental health concerns, including those with concurrent alcohol or drug use issues.

  • Will support and contribute to the reform directions outlined in the Rethink Mental Health Plan, The Tasmanian Mental Health Reform Program and relevant other strategic initiatives.

Essential Requirements

Registered with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse and possess specialist tertiary graduate or post graduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualifications; or completed, prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, an accredited hospital based program that lead to registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse regulatory authority within Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) Crimes of Violence

b) Sex Related Offences

c) Serious Drug Offences

d) Crimes involving dishonesty

2. Identification check

3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check

Desirable Requirements

  • Extensive relevant psychiatric nursing experience and/or is credentialed as a Mental Health Nurse by the Australian College of Mental Health Nurses or equivalent.

  • Holds or is working towards relevant tertiary qualifications.
