A vacancy will be available for an unaccredited Registrar in Cardiothoracic Surgery at the Tasmanian Cardiothoracic Unit. The unit is based at the Royal Hobart Hospital and serves as a tertiary care facility for the entire state of Tasmania. The unit manages a variety of cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures and the candidate would have a good all-round exposure to Cardiothoracic surgery. The position involves peri-operative management of patients, outpatient clinics, operative surgery as well as teaching and supervising interns and medical students who rotate through the unit. There are ample opportunities for research projects during the year.

Hobart is the capital city of Tasmanian and with a 1:3 on call, there is a good opportunity for work life balance as well as working towards a career in Cardiothoracic surgery.

Salary

$95,697 - $135,411 per annum

Fixed term, full time, day work (part time and casual positions will be considered) 80 hours per fortnight, commencing 31 January 2022 until

Duties

The Registrar is responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Hospital and provides after-hours emergency cover at the hospital as determined by the Medical Staffing Unit.

Essential Requirements

Registration/licencesthat are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer of any new criminal convictions and/or if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) Crimes of Violence

b) Sex Related Offences

c) Serious Drug Offences

d) Crimes involving dishonesty

2. Identification check

3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.

Desirable Requirement

Experience in Cardiothoracic Surgery.

This position would ideally suit someone who is working towards a training placement on the Cardiothoracic training program.
