We offer -

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral centre for the state of Tasmania. The hospital provides all general and specialty medical and surgical services as well as paediatrics, obstetrics and psychiatry and is the state’s tertiary trauma centre. Our busy, Emergency Department provides care for 65 000 patients annually with an admission rate of more than 35% and a paediatric case load of 25%. We also run a 16 bed Emergency Medical Unit.

The department is accredited for two years of advanced training with ACEM, and offers accredited rotations to anaesthetics, hyperbaric medicine, paediatrics and ICU. Rural hospital posts can also be arranged at the Launceston General Hospital or North West Regional Hospital.

There is a full day of protected education each fortnight, and a coordinated preparation program for both the ACEM primary and fellowship exams - with a high pass rate.

Applications are also encouraged from doctors of any background who wish to complete the Emergency Medicine Certificate or Diploma for which the department is an approved training site with accredited supervisors.

Salary

$95,697 - $135,411 per annum

Fixed term, full time, day work (part time and casual positions will be considered) 80 hours per fortnight, commencing 31 January 2022 until
30 January 2023 (Please note 24 months negotiable)

Duties

The Registrar is responsible for the day to day management of private and public inpatients and outpatients within the Hospital and provides after-hours emergency cover at the hospital as determined by the Medical Staffing Unit.

Essential Requirements

Registration/licencesthat are essential requirements of this role must remain current and valid at all times whilst employed in this role and the status of these may be checked at any time during employment. It is the employee’s responsibility to ensure that registration/licences remain current and to advise the Employer if their circumstances change. This includes notifying the Employer of any new criminal convictions and/or if a registration/licence is revoked, cancelled or has its conditions altered.

  • General or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia
  • Current Tasmanian Working with Children Registration (where applicable and as determined by individual position requirements).

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:

a) Crimes of Violence

b) Sex Related Offences

c) Serious Drug Offences

d) Crimes involving dishonesty

2. Identification check

3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.
