Biological Scientist II

Job Description:
  • Perform large and small whole animal experiments, including delivery of drugs and agents and assessment of airway physiology and airway histology.

  • Assist in maintaining lab supplies and ordering. Assist in overseeing undergraduates and other members of the lab. Assist in teaching procedures to students and personnel. Facilitate daily operations, including lab safety, hazardous waste removal, EH&S regulations, and IACUC regulations.

  • Responsible for establishing and maintaining primary cell. Assist in care of large and small animals.

  • Test and evaluate current procedures. Design portions of experimental plan. Apply new methods/theories. Troubleshoot problems with procedures and updates written procedures as needed.

  • Perform DNA, RNA, and protein extractions from biological samples.

  • Perform Western blots and immunofluorescence experiments as required.

  • Performing imaging and microscopy experiments of fixed and live airway tissues.

  • Perform PCR-based assays (end-point PCR, real-time PCR, RT-PCR, gel electrophoresis) with appropriate techniques to avoid cross-contamination and maintain quality control.

Expected Salary:

$35,568

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related field and three years of relevant experience; or a Master's degree in biology or a closely related field and one year of relevant experience; Doctoral degree in biology or a closely related field.

Preferred Qualifications:Master’s degree in biology or a closely related life science field and one year of experience.
