Classification Title:Small Animal Surgery Technician - CARE
Job Description:

Veterinary Technicians in the UF Small Animal Surgery department assist with the following: receiving surgery patients for evaluations and rechecks, performing nursing care such as venipuncture, catheter placement, cystocentesis, administering anesthesia and sedation, treatments, bandaging, and physical therapy, instructing veterinary students in general technical skills as well as specialized surgical nursing, client and referring veterinarian communication, and assisting clinicians in performing exams and procedures on patients, among other responsibilities.

This position requires independent, precise care of animals under the direction of doctors and manager, as well as thorough, professional, and pleasant communication with a wide range of clients, doctors, students, and co-workers.

The ideal candidate has ample experience in veterinary medicine, excellent communication and organization skills, and an interest in teaching.

This position requires a post offer health assessment.

Expected Salary:

Starting salary is $16.00 to $19.00 per hour, commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Veterinary Technician I:

High school diploma or equivalent and two years of veterinary experience or one year of veterinary experience and currently enrolled in a veterinary technician program or a graduate of a veterinary technician program.

Veterinary Technician II:

Credentialed veterinary technician and four years of veterinary experience.

Credentialed Technician

1. Knowledge of animal care and nursing
2. Knowledge of medical terminology and anatomy
3. Knowledge of the equipment and materials used and their availability and applications
4. Ability to effectively maintain a working environment while in stressful situations
5. Ability to effectively communicate with employees of various levels of responsibilities
6. Excellent communication skills in person, via email, and over the telephone
7. Good computer skills
8. Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations
9. Ability to prioritize and make timely decisions
10. Ability to work within a team
11. Ability to multitask as well as ability to set and change priorities in a fast-paced, high pressure environment while maintaining a positive attitude
