Base Location: Glasgow | Perth | Dublin

Salary:£38,600 - £58,000 / €55,000 - €82,400 depending on skills and experience + car / cash allowance + performance-related bonus + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

What is the Role?

We are currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to join the Renewable Engineering and Innovation Team. This role will provide engineering services and expertise relating to onshore wind turbines to both the development teams, building out SSE Renewables onshore wind pipeline, and also to our operations colleagues who manage the existing fleet and ensure it is providing optimum value.

From a development perspective, the role will aid in the optioneering, procurement and management of construction of MW scale wind turbines. The role will lead on the development and delivery of the technical aspects of the Turbine Supply Agreement as well as undertaking technical due diligence and quality and risk management of candidate wind turbines. The role will involve interfacing with other engineering disciplines and project managers, and will deliver an optimised and efficient wind farm within SSE's defined governance processes.

The role will also support the operational side of the business and will be integral in the management of the asset integrity of the existing wind turbine fleet, to ensure safe and economical operation. This element of the role will involve data analysis, site-based inspection, engineering risk assessment, identification of mitigation to asset integrity concerns and reporting clearly and concisely to the business.

What do I need?

We're looking for you to be a chartered engineer or have a clear path to becoming chartered and have demonstrable technical knowledge and experience relating to large mechanical plant., with a detailed understanding of wind turbine technology being desirable.

This role will have elements of asset management and wind farm development; therefore it would be preferable for you to have knowledge of the following:

- Technical due diligence, quality assurance, construction activities and wind turbine supply contracts.

- Client based experience in working with wind turbine suppliers would be advantageous.

- Asset management of large mechanical plant, undertaking root cause assessment, engineering risk assessment, reliability analysis and asset integrity assessment.

- Engineering legislation and industry best practice relating to wind turbines.

- Preparing detailed technical reports for issue to all levels of stakeholders.

You'll also need strong commercial acumen and a firm grasp of the context and implications of engineering activities and decisions.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills will be essential, as will an innovative mind set, a flexible approach and the capacity to deliver high quality work on a consistent basis in a demanding environment. You'll also need to able to deliver several projects concurrently whilst managing and prioritising your own workload accordingly.

Although office based you will be required to travel to wind farms under construction and in operation and therefor must have a valid driving license.
