Job Description:

The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Staff Specialist – Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) vacancy at Royal Hobart Hospital.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.

The Department of Otolaryngology at the Royal Hobart Hospital provides the best possible care of ear, nose, and throat conditions, education of medical students and nursing staff and training of residents and registrars.

Please note this vacancy is being advertised in conjunction with a Visiting Medical Officer – ENT should the successful candidate prefer to be appointed part-time under VMO employment arrangements. Only one appointment will be made either as a Specialist Medical Practitioner or Visiting Medical Officer.

Salary

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Classification

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 to Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 in accordance with the Salaried Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement 2019

  • Access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Levels 1, 2 and 3 as described in the Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award.

Period of Employment

Permanent full-time day work, working 76 hours per fortnight.

Duties

The Staff Specialist – ENT will:

  • Provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) patients.
  • Actively pursue improved outcomes for ENT patients by participating in teaching and research relevant to ENT Surgery.

Essential Requirements

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:
1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check
