Job Description:

The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Visiting Medical Officer – ENT vacancy at Royal Hobart Hospital.

The Royal Hobart Hospital is the tertiary referral hospital for Tasmania, and the principal teaching hospital for the University of Tasmania School of Medicine. The Hospital provides most specialist medical services for the region or state.

The Department of Otolaryngology at the Royal Hobart Hospital provides the best possible care of ear, nose, and throat conditions, education of medical students and nursing staff and training of residents and registrars.

Please note this vacancy is being advertised in conjunction with a Staff Specialist – ENT vacancy. Only one appointment will be made either as a Specialist Medical Practitioner or Visiting Medical Officer.

Salary

VMS L1-L4 $150.93 to $181.39 per hour:

  • exclusive of paid recreation leave, sick leave, conference leave and sabbatical leave entitlements and subject to any increases in remuneration in accordance with the Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement
  • The hourly rate is commensurate to years of service.

VMS L1-L4 (RUR) $175.04 to $210.41 per hour:

  • inclusive of paid recreation leave, sick leave, conference leave and sabbatical leave entitlements and subject to any increases in remuneration in accordance with the Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement
  • The hourly rate is commensurate to years of service.

Classification

Visiting Medical Specialist Level 1 or L1 (RUR) – Level 4 or L4 (RUR)

  • Advancement to the Level 4 salary range is subject to Schedule 1: Guidelines for Progression to VMS Level 4 in the Tasmanian Visiting Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Agreement

Period of Employment

Fixed term part-time day work, working 20 hours per fortnight as and when required commencing as soon as possible for five years.

Duties

The Visiting Medical Officer ENT will:

  • Provide clinical services of the highest possible standard to Ears, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgery patients.
  • Actively pursue improved outcomes for ENT Surgery patients by participating in teaching and research relevant to ENT Surgery.

Essential Requirements

  • Specialist or limited registration with the Medical Board of Australia in a relevant specialty

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty

3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check
