Job Description:

The University of Melbourne Centre for Cancer Research (UMCCR) has the mission to improve cancer patient outcome through Cancer Genome Discovery, Translation and Personalised Medicine. The UMCCR is seeking to recruit a Senior Bioinformatician who will help create solutions for rapid diagnostics at scale, decoding the genetic damage present in each patient’s cancer genome, with the rigor and speed needed for a clinical setting. This role will support the University of Melbourne's partnership with Illumina, one of the world’s leading genomics companies, which aims to drive genomics research and innovation within the Melbourne's biomedical precinct.

The Senior Bioinformatician will be responsible for developing and expanding our clinical cancer genomics workflows (WGS/WTS, ctDNA), testing new workflow strategies, evaluating novel methods in collaboration with international partners and exploring ideal reporting strategies with clinicians and scientists at VCCC. The incumbent will coordinate closely with the Genomics Platform team on workflow deployment and updates in a cloud computing environment. They will also work with our partners at the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health and Illumina to align our solutions with internationally accepted standards.
