What is the Role?

The SSE Digital Services team is currently expanding its portfolio of services and solutions by developing a smart energy systems capability. It is targeting rapid growth in this part of the business and beginning a transformation process, focusing on decarbonising electricity, heat and transport. The Project Development Manager (Smart Energy Systems) will be a new role with a genuine opportunity to work on exciting, multi-vector projects and position SSE as a provider of choice in this field. Our work brings together the best of the energy and digital solutions that SSE offers to business customers in local, smart energy systems that encompass energy assets such as generation and battery storage, electrical networks, EV charging stations and digital infrastructure such as Virtual Power Plants.

You'll be responsible for developing integrated energy solutions, shaping propositions and helping to secure contracts and partnerships with public and private sector organisations across the UK. The role will involve bringing together areas of different expertise and working with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure the projects are developed in line with our customers' needs and our strategy.

Your key responsibilities will include:

- Developing sophisticated perspectives on integrated energy systems taking into consideration policy & regulatory requirements, energy technology costs, value available from flexibility markets and inputting to the development of cash flow models to demonstrate value to the customer

- Preparation of concise and clear integrated energy systems propositions that translate into a language that the customer understands whilst also reflecting the complexity of the energy markets being addressed

- Ownership of key assumptions and inputs to complex analytical models. Ability to translate these for energy systems modellers

- Partnering with colleagues across business verticals (Distributed Generation and Storage, EV, Heat, Private Networks and Digital Services), to build and develop propositions that meet client requirements and maximise cross-business capabilities

- Direct responsibility for ensuring propositions/bids successfully transition from initial proposal to contract signature stage and managing the outputs of supporting roles to build high quality propositions

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we'd love you to have:

- Technical, commercial and project delivery expertise with a proven track record and experience in bringing together and managing complex propositions that sit across multiple areas

- Excellent understanding of distributed energy systems including generation technologies, storage and private networks. Additional understanding of EV charging commercial models is highly advantageous

- Track record in delivering energy projects and/or energy assets to commercial clients. Where possible you will have reference projects that demonstrate your involvement in shaping and delivering energy systems

- Experience calculating commercial opportunity (and risk) associated with the above energy system components

- Experience of identifying, on-boarding and working with partners to scope, build and deliver complex projects

Additionally, it's desirable that you have good knowledge of policy and regulation impacting on the GB energy system including transmission and distribution charging, wholesale price evolution drivers and other non-energy costs that contribute to the energy bill and Quantitative modelling experience including tools beyond Excel.
