About the Department

Realising Distributed Energy's ambition to embed smart platforms and digitalisation into our core strategy requires a change in its energy services capability and organisation. The development of a new Data and Analytics Team is a key element of the plan to drive forward a new and fast paced part of our Digital Services business under the Enterprise division.

What is the role?

This is an opportunity for a talented and experienced Data Scientist to join our expanding team, working closely with the business on some of the most demanding, high profile data science problems in energy.

You'll build innovative proof of concepts for complex problems across Distributed Energy with a focus on Smart Buildings.

Our Data Scientists work in small agile teams applying state-of-the-art techniques from data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence and decision optimization as well as building advanced data visualizations.

We're building an advanced cloud analytics platform and utilise a variety of data sources ranging from IOT sensor data, geospatial, weather, lidar, fault and maintenance, to telematics and use advanced supporting technologies including GIS systems and PAAS machine learning services.

This position sits within the Distribution business but will work closely with a wider group community of Data Scientists. In the Distribution team you'll be managing a small team and working alongside our data analysts, a small agile team applying state-of-the-art techniques from data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence and decision optimization as well as building advanced data visualizations. We're building an advanced cloud analytics platform and utilise a variety of data sources ranging from IOT sensor data, geospatial, weather, lidar, fault and predictive maintenance.

What do I need?

We need you to have a passion for Data Science and AI combined with the ability to communicate insights to the business and senior executives to help build winning business strategies. You'll already be operating at a senior technical level, ideally within the energy or engineering sector, and this will be based on a Degree in Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Engineering or a related quantitative discipline, plus a MSc or PhD in a related subject such as Data Science or Artificial Intelligence, or equivalent knowledge developed through training or professional experience.

Evidence of continued development through online courses, meetups or equivalent is also highly desirable.

Technically, you'll bring exceptional experience in the majority of the following: Machine learning (Supervised, Unsupervised, scikit-learn); Deep Learning (Tensorflow/Keras); Python (Pandas, Numpy, PySpark, Jupyter); Git; Tableau or equivalent; SQL; Artificial Intelligence/cognitive services.

It would be an advantage if you also have knowledge and experience of: Automated descriptive analytics; Geospatial data science / visualization; Azure or similar cloud; Azure ML Services or similar PAAS ML; Anomaly detection; GIS; Diagnostics; NoSQL; Graph database; decision augmentation/automation e.g. Heuristic Optimization/ Reinforcement Learning; optimization/planning/scheduling; Apache Spark.

Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders will be pivotal to this role, therefore, excellent communication and influencing skills are essential. Intellectually curious, you'll also demonstrate the ability to present complex ideas to technical and non-technical audiences at all levels including senior executives. We're looking for a collaborative team player, with a professional and positive attitude who'll be able to play a key part in our Data Science team.
