Job Description:

Base Location: Slough (Field Based)

Salary:£Competitive plus car/car allowance + performance-related bonus

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time, 37 hours | Flexible working options available.

What is the Role?

SSE Contracting Ltd's route to market for HV involves several hundred HV Private Networks that we control via our virtual control centre located in Slough. This combined with our gold standard Safe Systems of Work and through competitive tender has resulted in our success in gaining places on the SSEN Framework and we need an experienced DNO designer to manage the design process for this recent success.

As the HV DNO Design Engineer, you'll be expected to ensure that Contracting follow, adhere and enforce the SSEN engineering requirements for our projects and opportunities.

You'll be required to work closely with the work winning teams in Business Development, Bid Support and Estimating in order to lead cost effective and competitive solutions for Contracting.

This will be a hybrid role, primarily design engineering for these DNO projects but with aspects of Bid/Pre-construction Management. As such you'll possess the strategic and creative insight to understand the full range of opportunities contained within invitations to tender (ITT) and be willing to challenge the norm. You will liaise and manage other design functions within the HV sector including Civils to meet the project requirements.

You'll have responsibility for the following:

1. Technical Review of Tender Opportunities from a compliance, opportunity and risk perspective.

2. Designer appointments, managing of the designer framework, deliverables and fees.

3. Technical oversight of bid submissions and significant procurement elements.

4. Management of any CAD and Design Engineering teams.

5. Ongoing oversight of projects and operations from a Technical perspective.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you'll need proven experience from the DNO biased HV design role. This experience would have been gained working in either a design management role for a DNO business (SSEN would be advantageous) or with a HV Contractor working to a DNO business, or a consultant engineering or design related field.

You'll have very good working knowledge of the following systems and documentation:

- DNO Standards for Design and Process Management

- Operational Safety Rules and Safe Systems of Work

- CDM 2015 and Residual Risk experience

- 2D and 3D CAD, e.g. AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.

Other requirements include:

- Educated to degree level (or equivalent) in an HV Engineering discipline.

- Ability to network, internally/externally to facilitate development of customers and stakeholders.

- Ability to manage external designers to a programme of deliverables.

- IT skills to conduct formal presentations and conduct analysis of performance figures.

- Excellent planning and organisational skills.

- Management skills combined with previous experience of managing teams and their performance, excellent conversational and negotiating skills to articulate your ideas to a wider forum.

- Finally, as there will be travel involved in this role, you'll need a full driving licence.
