Base Location: Perthshire, Berkshire or Dorset

Salary: £51,946 - £68,603 + a range of other benefits to support your family, finances and wellbeing.

Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time | Flexible working options available

What is the Role?

Working within our Operational Technology team, you’ll help facilitate data collection, automatic operation from protection or software, and manual action from an operator. This includes all software and hardware between the screens and keyboards of engineers, to the terminals of the switch or device on the LV, HV or EHV network. In this role you will:

- support the Asset Management of our communication systems, ensuring satisfactory performance, whilst finding ways to reduce risk and balance cost through the continuous improvement of processes

- work closely with key internal stakeholders to deliver a robust communications solution that facilitates the safe operation of the Electricity Networks while maintaining system integrity

- act as a technical expert in your field and represent SSEN as a key stakeholder and primary consultant for future communication requirements within the industry

- work closely with stakeholders within the SSEN business to develop and review business cases for communications projects to be presented to the Board, assessing various options and analysing the most beneficial cost vs risk solutions

- ensure the communications systems adhere to SSEN and industry wide compliance and regulation

What do I need?

To be considered for this role, we would love you to have:

- a Degree level (or equivalent) qualification in Electronics Engineering or another related discipline

- previous industry experience and an understanding of governance applied to safety critical engineering processes, risk assessment and mitigation processes

- a working knowledge in multiple systems and associated architecture in some or all of the following; Microwave, Fibre, Data Networking, TSAT, VSAT, Scanning Radio, LTE, PMR, GPRS, PDH/SDH Mux, meshed networks

- a commercial awareness with an understanding of the cost versus risk profile for Customer Interruptions & Customer Minutes Lost (CI’s & CML’s)

- the ability to develop and implement engineering strategy with a proven record of implementing new ideas
