Working Pattern: Permanent | Full Time, 37 hours per week | Flexible working options available.

What is the Role?

Thanks to continued expansion, SSE Contracting Ltd have an opportunity for a dynamic, self-motivated and experienced Building Services Design Manager (Mechanical biased) to join their growing team. With 52 regional depots, we have a presence from Inverness to Exeter, so location is not important. We would welcome applications regardless of location.

This will be a hybrid role, primarily design management with aspects of Bid/Pre-construction Management, as such you'll possess the strategic and creative insight to understand the full range of opportunities contained within invitations to tender (ITT) and be willing to challenge the norm.

Working notionally from an office to best suit your home locations or indeed remotely from your home, you'll assist the business in pre-construction phases to ensure the best value is driven from any designs. This will also include the design appointments, contributing to design programmes and design deliverables schedules, technical submittals, drawings approvals process and engagement in design repository portals as part of the pre-construction process.

1. Technical Review of Tender Opportunities from a compliance, opportunity and risk perspective.

2. Designer appointments, managing of the designer framework, deliverables and fees.

3. Technical oversight of bid submissions and significant procurement elements.

4. Management of BIM/CAD and Design Engineering teams.

5. Ongoing oversight of projects and operations from a Technical perspective.

A typical dynamic week for you may consist of:

- Engaging with several consultants and networking in order to obtain design proposals and fees for an opportunity, and indeed to maintain the relationships with the peer groups.

- Involving yourself in reviewing the design engineers input and act as a mentor on their projects and to advise on their contributions.

- Visiting sites and engage in design team meetings and represent the business.

- Reviewing designs and 3D/Navisworks models for co-ordination purposes and to offer your experience in off-site opportunities.-

- Spending some time Influencing the bid strategies, technical deliverables, creating compelling content.

- Ending the working week with a smile that you've contributed to a successful business.

What do I need?

To be successful in this role, you'll need proven experience in mechanical building services engineering. This experience would have been gained working in either a design management role for an M&E Contractor or a Main Contractor, or a consultant engineering or design related field, with appropriate professional qualification. You'll have a thorough understanding of design interfaces, risk and opportunity and relationship management.

You'll have very good working knowledge of the following systems and documentation:

- CIBSE Design Guides, BSRIA standards and other empirical guides.

- Off-site Manufacturing principals, (DfMA - Design for Manufacturing and Assembly)

- BSRIA BG 6 design deliverables pro-forma documentation,

- CDM 2015 and Residual Risk experience and

- 2D and 3D CAD, e.g. AutoCAD, Revit and Navisworks.

- Will be conversant in BIM principals and PAS 1192 (BIM Level 2).

Other requirements include:

- Educated to a Degree level (or equivalent) in a building services mechanical engineering discipline

- Management skills combined with previous experience of managing teams and their performance along with excellent conversational and negotiating skills to articulate your ideas to a wider forum

- Ability to network, internally/externally to facilitate development of customers and stakeholders

- IT skills to conduct formal presentations and conduct analysis of performance figures

- Excellent planning and organisational skills

- Finally, as there will be travel involved in this role, you'll need a full driving licence
