Job Description:

The Crop Biotechnology lab at University of Florida, headed by Fredy Altpeter (http://agronomy.ifas.ufl.edu/faculty/fredy-altpeter/) is offering a Summer Internship in Plant Tissue Culture and Crop Biotechnology for Undergraduate Students in Plant Science.

The successful candidates will be trained in preparation of explants, preparation of culture media, aseptic technique, initiation and subculture of tissue cultures, gene transfer into plant tissues, selection of transgenic plant tissues and their regeneration to plants, transfer of plants to soil, confirmation of transgenic plants by PCR.

The research program focuses on genetic improvement of grasses by biotech approaches including genome editing, RNAi, over-expression of genes to enhance quality and agronomic performance.

Internship duration: May 10th to August 6th.

Pay rate: $10 hourly (40 hours per week).

Expected Salary:

$10.00 hour

Minimum Requirements:

Undergraduate student at University or College in plant science or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

Interest and specialization in plant genetics.

The successful candidate is goal oriented and enjoys multi-tasking in a fast paced environment and will use well established tissue culture and gene transfer protocols for the introduction of vectors similar in scope to our earlier publications:

Prior laboratory experience is a plus.
