Job Description:

Trial Garden and Greenhouse Coordination

• Coordinate the preparation, set up, maintain, and clean up experiments in the greenhouse and field, ensuring all equipment and materials are properly used and stored. Oversees nutrient analysis of plant, soil, and water samples, preparing standards and reagents for tests, ensuring accuracy and precision in the data collection process.

• Supervise student volunteers, ensuring they adhere to experimental guidelines and safety protocols. Ensures students perform general maintenance of greenhouse and field areas, including applying herbicides, mowing, weeding, mulching, and laying ground cover.

• Implements program procedures regarding routine preventative maintenance of greenhouse and laboratory spaces, addressing any issues promptly.

• Maintain inventory of supplies in the greenhouse and laboratory, ensuring stock levels are adequate. Purchase supplies necessary for experiments, such as media, fertilizer, plants, tools, and irrigation systems.

• Repair and maintain irrigation systems in the field and greenhouse to ensure optimal plant growth conditions.

Webpage and Social Media Maintenance

• Maintain and update the FLREC website, ensuring information related to faculty and research studies is current and relevant.

• Collaborate with the supervisor to develop and update promotional materials for the center research findings.

• Coordinate updates on photos and the screen displays in the lobby to reflect ongoing research and events.

• Manage the center’s Facebook and X accounts, posting updates and engaging with followers.

• Update the center calendar on the webpage, listing important events and deadlines.

Liaison and Policy Coordination

• Act as the liaison for the PI, coordinating trials and meetings with internal and external stakeholders to ensure streamlined communication and effective project execution.

• Interpret and implement policies and procedures as they pertain to the trail gardens and greenhouses, ensuring compliance with institutional and regulatory standards.

• Proactively recommend and implement changes to existing policies and procedures to enhance efficiency, ensure safety, and maintain regulatory compliance.

• Facilitate the integration of new policies by providing training and guidance to staff, fostering an environment of continuous improvement.

• Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of policy implementation, providing feedback to stakeholders and adjusting as necessary.

Chemical Inventory and Safety Liaison

• Manage chemical inventory, including logging and monitoring chemical usage and storage.

• Coordinate with UF Environmental Health & Safety (EH&S) for hazardous waste management, ensuring compliance with safety regulations.

• Organize and facilitate safety training sessions for faculty and staff, maintaining a safe working environment.

• Act as the back-up safety officer, stepping in when the primary safety officer is unavailable

Expected Salary: $50,000 commensurate with education and experience
Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Ability to accurately and independently establish and conduct projects given only brief oral or written guidelines or instructions.

Bachelor’s degree in agronomy, biology, botany, entomology, forestry, horticulture, zoology or a discipline that clearly provides a background that can be applied to the work of this position.
