Job Description:

The Royal Hobart Hospital and Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for Staff Specialist – Emergency Medicine vacancies.

Royal Hobart Hospital is Tasmania’s largest hospital and major referral centre. As the major clinical teaching and research centre, RHH collaborates with the University of Tasmania and other institutions. The Emergency Department has direct access to all medical and surgical specialities; and has approximately 75,000 presentations per year. The Department has more than 250 staff, consisting of medical, nursing, allied health, clerical, aides, and orderlies.

The Emergency Department is staffed by specialists, registrars, nurses, and clinical support staff who work together as a dynamic team with strong focus on collegiality.

The Role

  • Provide specialist emergency care to public and private patients attending the Emergency Department (ED) at the Royal Hobart Hospital (RHH).
  • Be involved in research and quality improvement activities, undergraduate and postgraduate teaching at RHH.
  • Provide specialist advice to inpatient units as required.

Salary

Medical Practitioners (Public Sector) Award

A remuneration package comprising the Agreement base salary, relevant allowances and other entitlements will be negotiated with the successful applicant dependent on clinical experience and seniority.

Base salary points range for Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 at $216,300 through to Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 11 at $296,640 with further salary increments available.

  • Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $300,216 - $310,389 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

Medical Practitioners Agreement 2022

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

  • Provision of a fully maintained private plated motor vehicle (subject to working full-time hours) OR allowance in lieu of motor vehicle currently set at $28,389 pro rata per annum, paid fortnightly (with CPI indexation on 1 July each year).
  • Continuing Professional Development Allowance of $16,480 pro rata per annum.
  • Relocation allowance.
  • On call allowance % of Base Salary.
  • All other allowances as per current Award.
  • And subject to approval from the Private Patient Scheme Committee (PPS), 35% of Base salary plus on-call, pro rata) of additional payment will be paid from (PPS). If not admitted to the PPS, a 35% in lieu of PPS of base salary will be paid.

Other Benefits:

  • You will have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.
  • You will also have access to accommodation and relocation costs.

Details of Appointment

Fixed term appointments, both full-time and part-time day work (with on-call) available, working up to 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible for 2 years.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time and part time vacancies.

Essential Requirements

  • Holds specialist registration
  • Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who is on the specialist pathway
  • Is a registered Medical Practitioner who is an International Medical Graduate (IMG) who has a recognised overseas specialist qualification and is assessed as having sufficient experience in the speciality.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
    1. Crimes of violence
    2. Sex related offences
    3. Serious drug offences
    4. Crimes involving dishonesty
  2. Identification check
  3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check
