The Micro Computed Tomography (Micro-CT) Laboratory is part of the Mark Wainwright Analytical Centre (MWAC). Our state-of-the-art facility hosts two HeliScan micro-CT scanners and a dedicated image analysis laboratory equipped with high-performance computers and advanced software. We support collaborative and fee-for-service projects for internal and external research groups, as well as commercial clients. The facility has recently invested $1.5 M to upgrade the capability of the facility.
Reporting to the Micro-CT Lab Manager, you’ll support research activities using tomogram X- ray techniques by conducting sample preparation, maintaining, and operating the micro-CT equipment, and providing basic user training to use image processing software for data interpretation and managing the health and safety in the laboratory.

About the successful applicant:
You have a tertiary qualification and or experience in materials science, civil engineering, minerals engineering, mechanical engineering or fluid flows in porous media. You also have experience operating an X-ray Computed Tomography instrument, performing 3D imaging using software and providing training for analysis is essential. Additionally, you’ll have experience working with high-pressure and mechanical testing cells for in-situ studies using a CT scanner and knowledge of implementing X-ray safety under NSW EPA regulations or equivalent. An IA8 EPA license is desirable.
You’ll also be able to demonstrate your interpersonal and communication skills, ability to build strong working relationships with diverse stakeholders, work collaboratively and productively within a team, and have high level organisation skills to manage multiple tasks and projects, establish priorities and meet deadlines. Your understanding and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives, and values, along with relevant policies and guidelines and knowledge of health and safety responsibilities, both psychosocial and physical is also essential.
