Job Description:

The Eddy Research Group at the Department of Chemistry, University of Florida (UF), Gainesville, FL invites applications for a research technician position with an emphasis on production of soluble and membrane proteins. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. Matthew Eddy (https://mattheweddylab.org) focusing on expressing and characterizing proteins from Eukaryotic expression systems.

Successful candidates should have a background in protein production and tissue culture techniques, including either experience with protein production in insect cell or in mammalian cell systems. The Research Technician will be responsible for maintaining a cell culture facility, producing protein, maintaining a clean and hygienic laboratory environment, and working both independently and part of a small team.

Our group specializes in the study of human signaling proteins involved in human health and disease, especially G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs). We make use of several protein expression platforms to produce these proteins, including yeast (P. pastoris) and insect cells. We are seeking a research technician with experience in these areas to help us with protein production and related protein sample characterization.

Expected Salary:

$43,000 - $52,000. Commensurate with experience

Minimum Requirements:

B.S. in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or closely related areas of study

Preferred Qualifications:

Previous experience with protein purification methods is a plus but not a requirement.M.S. degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, or closely related areas of study would be a plus but not a requirement

Experience with tissue culture techniques and equipment
Good laboratory hygiene, cleanliness, and organization
Good written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Ability to take initiative, set priorities, multi-task and manage your time, and resolve problems
