About the Department

SSE Enterprise Utilities is the Distributed Energy (DE) and Private Networks business of SSE plc. We finance, own, operate and maintain energy infrastructure for commercial, industrial and residential customers - providing them with a market leading project development service and certainty of operational performance and asset management.

What is the Role?

SSE Distributed Energy are enjoying a period of rapid growth. To achieve our ambitious targets the team has recently expanded, and in line with this, we are looking to recruit a new Director of Energy Infrastructure to lead the Team.

The position will be a key influencing figure in the leadership team, leveraging resources efficiently to drive continued rapid revenue growth, build and grow relationships with new and existing customers and meet annual revenue and sales targets on a quarterly and annual basis that align with the company's objectives and sales sector strategy.

Success in the role will be defined by having responsibility of delivering the P&L within Distributed Energy of circa £150m. It involves overall responsibility and accountability of growth and development in the DE sectors, including Heat, DGS, SHP, Electrical private networks, building optimisation and control solutions and EV. This role will have full responsibility for the delivery of the business objectives within the relevant sector and will be highly effective in driving action for building and developing the P&L to develop the strategy to support business growth.

As a member of the Distributed Energy Leadership team, this post holder shares collective responsibility for developing strategy, setting targets, reviewing and agreeing progress of sector development, and driving performance across the whole of the Distributed Energy business to ensure its future success, including the development and execution of the 5-year plan and strategy.

What do I need?

- High degree of business experience; working in both embryonic and mature sectors.

- Ability to derive solutions in complex environments.

- Ability to form business cases and long-term investment strategies, and turn them into propositions which meet both the SSE governance requirements and can be sold in the market.

- Experience of developing an Asset based business. Understanding of both build an acquisition opportunity and how to execute appropriate strategies for each.

- Project Management capability, to take ideas through the life cycle from an idea through to delivery and retain P&L accountability for success.

- Strategic thinker with demonstrable experience of transitioning strategy into reality.

- Large Multi-national/Utility experience preferred but not essential.

- Energy/Petrochemical/Large Industry - Commercial and/or Investment background would be advantageous.

- Your leadership experience will include building and managing a strong team of up to 250 who are focused to win and able to foster an environment of integrity and transparency.
