About the Department

Energy Customer Solutions (ECS) is the face of SSE to our customers in GB and Ireland, providing leading and reliable B2B services as well as leading retail solutions for our B2C customers.

SSE Energy Customer Solutions core business is supplying energy in a reliable and sustainable way to over 500,000 business customers in the UK, ranging from start-ups to large national corporates. Through leveraging the strengths of the SSE Group, ECS is able to support our customers to adopt a sustainable business approach through the provision of renewable energy, energy optimisation services and advice on how to use sustainability to drive business advantage.

We work in partnership with all our customers to ensure that they are maximising the value from their energy contract and are using energy as a value generating asset that can influence better planning, greater cost control, improved working and product environments, reduced carbon footprint, stronger brand equity and more engaged staff.

What is the Role?

This is a key technical data lead role within the BESP, reporting into the Smart Head of Data, Reporting & Load Balancing.

Key aspects of the role include:

-Review, improve and optimise all of the data extraction and transformation processes that assemble the data within the SSE BE Smart Datastore. Create robust new Smart data modelling requirements and process design.

-Expertly utilise reporting tools that visualise, simplify and interpret complex Smart data, thereby creating valuable and easily understood MI that pinpoints crucial areas of the end to end Smart campaign that require focus and attention.

-Conduct Smart data orientated workshops and training sessions across the programme to strengthen the wider teams understanding of campaign data and ability to work with it in day to day demand and installation activities.

-Assume a smart data technical mentorship role within the programme, assisting others to further develop, expand and enhance data related skillsets especially within the BE Smart Data Operations Team.

-Must be comfortable working with a wide range of stakeholders and functional teams.

The role will initially be for 12 months but may endure through the 2021-2025 extended Smart obligation.

What is involved?

-Be able to identify, analyse, interpret, and act on opportunities and gaps present within core BESP data sources, including the Smart eligibility funnel, 3rd party operational campaign dashboard reporting and underlying raw campaign data, and the soon to be completed end to end Smart customer journey database.

-Further mine, handle and analyse Smart related data from BE databases to drive optimisation and improvement of BESP campaign, installation and regulatory activities.

-Assess the accuracy and robustness of new Smart data sources and employ effective data gathering techniques.

-Coordinate with different functional teams to develop additional custom data models and algorithms to apply to Smart data sets and monitor accuracy, performance & outcomes.

-Design, develop and produce concise, robust, quality-drive and easily understood Smart MI reporting.

-Develop A/B testing frameworks and test model quality.

-Communicate and confidently present and demonstrate the outcomes of completed work packages to senior management.

-Provide wider improvement facilitation to BESP through holding workshops, training sessions that inform, educate, and assist the team in strengthening technical and procedural skills that drive effective behaviours and improved output.

-Support any additional strategic initiatives set out by BESP Director.

-Work with stakeholders throughout the organisation to identify and act on additional opportunities that optimise the leveraging of BE Smart related data to drive business solutions.

-Work with wider BE stakeholders to ensure Smart alignment with wider key strategic data process objectives, particularly with regards to CPR migration.

You will need to have:

-Strong, demonstrable experience in leading and carrying out data analysis in complex process environments and projects, including knowledge of process improvement techniques

-Strong data & process modelling and analysis technical skills, including working with and aggregating large data sets

-Strong process visualisation skills to present insights and communicate clear and compelling messages resulting from process analysis

-Experience in the use of process and MS tools, e.g. PowerPivot, Power BI, MS Visio, MS Office Suite and PowerPoint experience.

-Experience of working collaboratively with 3rd party contractors and consultants

-Experience using statistical computer languages (R, Python, SLQ, etc.) to manipulate data and draw insights from large data sets.

-Experience working with and creating data architectures.

-Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and concepts (regression, properties of distributions, statistical tests and proper usage, etc.) and experience with applications.

-Strong problem-solving skills with an emphasis on solution development.

-Written and verbal communication skills for coordinating across teams including engaging effectively with senior stakeholders and ability to present to a senior audience.

-Highly analytical, with high level of attention to data, detail and quality

-Logical thinker with the ability to summarise and present insights from complex process analysis in an effective and structured way

-Ability to influence and engage programme management in complex process in a concise and compelling fashion

-Efficient time management and strong focus on outcomes to be able to manage multiple tasks and complex workload according to tight deadlines

-Ability to act assertively when working with stakeholders with competing demands and outlooks in order to achieve objectives and drive improvement

-Proactive and able to work independently, with significant experience of framing challenges, defining options, agreeing solutions, creating subsequent work packages and driving them to implementation

-Ability to develop a strong network of contacts to assure project contributions to designing ongoing business improvements and to keep a finger on the pulse of the programme

-Knowledge of energy / utility industry is desirable, including awareness of Smart regime.

-Experience of working in a complex project & business environment and understanding of wider business plans and strategic initiatives

-Ability to collaborate cross functionally and work in matrix functions.
