What is the role?

A unique opportunity has become available for a passionate and collaborative Registered Nurse to join our friendly and supportive Adult Community Mental Health team in Launceston, Tasmania.

Who are we?

We are a small multi- disciplinary team of professionals operating out of the Adult and Older Persons Community Mental Health building in Launceston. The team consists of a Team Leader, Clinical Lead, Psychiatrist, Psychiatric Registrar, Senior Social Worker, Senior Clinical Psychologist, Senior Occupational Therapist, Clinical Nurse Specialist, GP Liaison Nurse and a case management team made up of nursing, social work, occupational therapy and psychology staff.

The team operates under an assertive case management model providing in-reach into people’s homes as well as therapeutic interventions conducted within the work site.

Part of our role involves referring to and working alongside community-based organisations to facilitate a supportive wholistic service provision to our clients.

The overall aim of our work is to support our clients to become independent of our service, involved in their community, focussing on the goals they set for themselves to enhance their lives now and into the future.

To further this aim, you may find yourself: developing safety plans, completing referrals to external services such as Micare or NDIA for example, or to our peer workers or carer peer workers within the service.

Salary

$64,928 to $89,743 per annum

in accordance with the Nurses and Midwives (Tasmanian State Service Agreement) 2019

  • Access to the Grade 4 salary range $84,018 - $89,743 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4.

Period of Employment

Permanent, full time, day work, working 76 hours per fortnight commencing as soon as possible.

Please note that part time hours may be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Duties

The Registered Nurse - Community Mental Health:

  • Consistent with ongoing experience strengthens health outcomes through the provision of safe quality, clinically appropriate nursing care in partnership with patients/clients, their families and other health professionals and community sector organisations within the defined community practice area.
  • As part of a multi-disciplinary team delivering high quality mental health services provides a specialist mental health service within the community setting for a designated client group, utilising evidence based practices and recovery principles.

Essential Requirements

  • Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse.
  • Current Driver’s Licence.

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

1. Conviction checks in the following areas:
a) Crimes of Violence
b) Sex Related Offences
c) Serious Drug Offences
d) Crimes involving dishonesty
e) Serious traffic offences
2. Identification check
3. Disciplinary action in previous employment check

Desirable Requirements

  • Possesses specialist tertiary graduate or postgraduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification.
