Salary:£38,000 – 58,000 depending on skills and experience + car/cash allowance + annual bonus

About the Department

Transmission operates under licence as Scottish Hydro Electric (SHE) Transmission plc, responsible for the transmission of electricity in the north of Scotland. We own and maintain the 132kV, 275kV and 400kV electricity transmission network in our licence area. Our network comprises of underground cables, overhead wooden poles, steel towers and electricity substations, and it extends over a quarter of the UK land mass across some of its most challenging terrain.

What is the Role?

SSEN Transmission currently has a fantastic opportunity for an experienced Whole System Manager. The role is at the leading edge of developing smarter ways of meeting Net Zero energy needs. It seeks to develop new ways of working that can deliver the most efficient energy solution in an area by working across the energy industry. This includes working with Distribution Network Operators (DNO), National Grid System Operator, transport companies and gas companies. Examples will include how to deliver network developments that service renewable energy connections at the same time as supporting the decarbonisation of the heat and transport sectors.Your role will include establishing a framework for how to identify opportunities for the business to grow; seek ways of funding the growth; collaborate with other industry parties to deliver and operate the delivered schemes; and monitor schemes that deliver whole system benefits to SSEN Transmission and its’ stakeholders.

You will review the industry whole system concept developments to date, both internally and externally, deciding whether the existing policy will best serve SHE Transmission and its’ stakeholders, and revise accordingly. You will maintain the existing implementation plan and develop it, through internal and external consultation. The Action Plan will be developed in conjunction with our capital delivery plan for RIIO-T2. Upon implementation, this will instil SHE Transmissions view of whole system. You will maintain the Whole System Policy to keep it relevant and supportive of SHE Transmission strategic objectives.

You will take a project management role for the delivery of the Action Plan. This will include developing, gaining support, internally and externally, for and maintaining a framework that delivers the ambition laid out in the Whole System Policy. The framework will cover process, roles and responsibilities, funding and collaboration across the energy industry. This will include establishing the governance and reporting lines to the relevant internal forums. Upon establishment of the framework you will continually assess the framework for suitability and possible improvements, gain approval for and subsequently delivering those improvements.

The role works in parallel with a Senior Whole System Planning Engineer who provides the detailed technical requirements for Whole System working.

What do I need?

To be considered for this opportunity you will have established engineering or commercial or regulatory knowledge to degree level or equivalent experience. The role requires you to have project development skills, programme management and budget development skills combined with excellent analysis and knowledge transfer skills to a proven professional level.

You will have comprehensive industry knowledge of how the electricity networks are owned, operated and financed; coupled with thorough knowledge of the RIIO framework including ED/GD/GT/ET1 and ED/GD/GT/ET2. It is also important that you have knowledge and understanding of regulatory framework and licence obligations

You will have brilliant People Management and Stakeholder Engagement and Influencing skills and the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally. You will have exceptional time management skills allowing you to efficiently plan your own and others’ time.

The Whole Sale System manager will take ownership of problems and requests and maintains quality of work even in a pressurised environment; ensuring people reach agreement and develop effective work practices.

Working knowledge of MS Office Suite is also required.
