OPS Research Technician

Job Description:

The Research Technician position includes operating laboratory tools and equipment, collecting/organizing/presenting data, and working with the PIs and other lab members to insure timely publication of the data, conduct experiments designed by the laboratory PIs and assist with experimental design.

Techniques used include: Molecular cloning and mutagenesis, protein production and purification, bacterial membrane preparations, Western blot, identification and characterization of protein-protein, protein nucleic acid, and protein-lipid interactions, RNAseq/gradient seq sample preparation and data analysis.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Prepare data for presentation at biweekly lab meetings
  • Train other lab members at the bench and assist with their experiments
  • Data analysis, presentation, and management
  • Use of structure/function prediction, macromolecular interaction, RNAseq and ‘omics, statistical analysis, and reference management programs
  • Prepare posters/talks for presentation at local, national, and international scientific meetings
  • Manuscript preparation
  • Assist the laboratory technician in managing/maintaining the lab
  • Assist with regulatory paperwork as needed
  • Maintenance of laboratory supplies
  • Interact with vendors and service providers on equipment purchases, repairs and service contracts
  • Receive and properly handle laboratory reagent
  • Proper maintenance and basic trouble-shooting of scientific equipment
Expected Salary:

$22-$30 per hour. Compensation commensurate with experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor’s degree in biology, microbiology, biochemistry, or equivalent area

Minimum of 3-5 years of wet lab experience, and/or advanced degree

Preferred Qualifications:

Applicants should have a strong background in molecular genetics and regulation, as well as protein structure/function, membrane biology, and in vitro transcription/translation assays

Excellent written and oral English language skills

Ability to work independently to generate and analyze data

Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a collaborative environment
