About The School of Biomedical Sciences
The School of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Western Australia encompasses research and teaching across a range of biological, medical and health science-related fields. The School comprises over seventy academic and professional staff members, plus a similar number of adjunct staff. The School is part of the UWA Health Campus and is geographically located on the QEII Medical Campus next to the Perth’s major teaching hospitals, medical research institutes, and the state public pathology service, creating a stimulating biomedical teaching and research environment in one of the most liveable cities on the planet.

The School’s research facilities consist of modern, well-equipped laboratories, shared equipment resources and core services. Communication and collaboration between Disciplines and Schools within the University and other research institutions within the state are encouraged and supported to promote multidisciplinary, collaborative research.

About Pathology and Laboratory Science (P&LS)
The Discipline of Pathology and Laboratory Science (P&LS) is also custodian and home to the FA Hadley Pathology Museum. The FA Hadley Museum holds a unique collection of 3500 specimens used to educate medical, nursing and science undergraduate and postgraduate students, and assists in training specialist pathologists to improve their understanding of mechanisms of disease and diagnostic pathology. Each specimen is displayed with an anonymous clinical history respecting the origins of the tissue. This ensures the museum shares stories that promote valuable insights while preserving the integrity of the specimens.

Academic members of P&LS are responsible for managing and coordinating the undergraduate major in Pathology and Laboratory Medicine (MJD-PLMED) within the Bachelor of Biomedical Science, and the Master of Clinical Pathology - a postgraduate program accredited with the Australian Institute of Medical and Clinical Sciences (AIMS). In addition, there are short courses, micro accreditations and service teaching into other undergraduate majors as well as into medicine, dentistry, optometry and podiatric programs.

About the opportunity
Reporting to the Head of Discipline (Pathology and Laboratory Science), you will act as a senior teaching and research academic in clinical and laboratory pathology with particular emphasis on anatomical pathology.

You will contribute to the delivery and development of new and existing undergraduate and postgraduate education programs delivered by the Discipline of Pathology and Laboratory Science, and the School more generally, as required. You will coordinate and manage undergraduate and postgraduate units related to your field of expertise (specifically, anatomical pathology), attract and supervise high standard research students in related projects that you will lead or collaborate on. You will lead the School’s custodianship of the FA Hadley Museum and leverage this to further the educational and research objectives of the University and our partners. You will engage with public or private pathology providers to build successful partnerships to enhance teaching, research training and research opportunities. You will be expected to engage and promote a sustainable research program aligned with the research domain of Pathology and Laboratory Science.

About you
To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate:

• A doctoral level qualification with specialisation in clinical or laboratory pathology
• An emerging record of excellence in the development and delivery of curricula and the use of innovative teaching approaches, assessment and materials for pathology
• A track record in excellence in research at a national level evidenced by a series of peer-reviewed journal articles published in high quality journals
• Experience leading public engagement activities that promote research and/or education outcomes, government and industry
• Experience practicing clinical or laboratory pathology with eligibility for specialist registration with AHPRA desirable. A clinical/para-clinical loading allowance is available, depending on qualifications, registration in Australia, and level/type of clinical responsibilities
