Job Description:

We are seeking self-motivated applicants for a two-year post-doctoral fellowship position in the area of clinical pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics. The position will be supported through a joint fellowship program between the Clinical Pharmacology Department at Genentech and the Center for Pharmacometrics & Systems Pharmacology at the University of Florida. A key objective of the Fellowship is to integrate the academic and industry experience in clinical pharmacology and modeling & simulation (M&S) research. To that end, the Fellowship has two goals - a training goal and a project goal. To achieve these goals, the Fellow will have mentors at both Genentech and at the University of Florida.

The successful candidate with have the opportunities to participate in:

  1. Participate in weekly project meetings to gain experience in:

    • Effectively analyzing, interpreting, and presenting Pharmacokinetics (“PK”) and Pharmacodynamics (“PD”) data at cross-functional teams, Department meetings, and regulatory meetings. Data analysis activities could include non-compartmental analysis, statistical analysis, population PK/PD models, disease models, physiological-based PK (PBPK) models, quantitative system pharmacology (QSP) models, clinical trial simulations, literature meta-analysis, machine learning/deep learning, and other state-of-the-art quantitative techniques.
    • Developing a clinical pharmacology plan and/or modeling & simulation plan
    • Leading and contributing to the design and review of clinical pharmacology clinical study protocols and analysis plans
    • Preparing and reviewing Clinical Pharmacology or Modeling & Simulation sections of the study reports and other internal, clinical, and regulatory documents
    • Perform other duties as directed by University of Florida and Genentech
  2. Participate in didactic instruction that supplements training and personal interest. Course topics include but are not limited to biostatistics, advanced pharmacokinetics, drug metabolism, drug analysis, or epidemiology

  3. Participate in regular group meetings at Genentech and/or the University of Florida

Expected Salary:

Salary as defined by NIH guidelines, and based on education and experience.

Minimum Requirements:

Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Health Science, Engineering, Statistics, Applied Mathematics or related fields or Pharm.D. or M.D. with knowledge of PK/PD analyses.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hands-on experience with nonlinear mixed-effect modeling (NONMEM)
  • Experience with NONMEM, R, Phoenix, Monolix, Pumas, SimBiology, Simcyp, GastroPlus, Python, or other related software packages
  • Experience with conducting independent and/or collaborative research
  • Interest in interdisciplinary research
  • Strong communication skills
