About the Role and Team:

The Tasmanian Health Service is seeking interest from suitably qualified applicants for a Forensic Consultant Psychiatrist vacancy based at the Wilfred Lopes Centre.

State-wide Mental Health Services is a leader and innovator for a unique corner of the health care industry. We provide a comprehensive suite of services across the areas of mental health, alcohol and drugs, forensic mental health and correctional primary health.

Tasmania's Forensic Mental Health Services provides community and inpatient mental health assessment, treatment and case management for offenders (or people at risk of offending) who have a mental disorder. Clients are provided with contemporary, professional and highly specialised psychiatric care and treatment so that their condition is well managed.

Community teams are based in the North and South of the state and Inpatient care is provided at Wilfred Lopes Centre located in Risdon Vale, east of Hobart.

The Role:

Details of Appointment:

Permanent full time, day worker (with on-call) position working 76 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant

Salary:

Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1 $163,005 - Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 3 $247,768 per annum, pro rata + 11% superannuation + access to salary packaging

Please note that access to the Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner salary range $234,726 -$247,768 is subject to the successful applicant satisfying the criteria for Senior Specialist Medical Practitioner Level 1, 2 or 3 as outlined in the Medical Practitioners (Tasmanian State Service) Award

*A new wages agreement has been agreed and is currently being registered in the Tasmanian Industrial Commission. The new rates apply to this position and are effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2023

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

The Head of the State Service has determined that the person nominated for this job is to satisfy a pre‑employment check before taking up the appointment, on promotion or transfer. The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Crimes of violence
  2. sex related offences
  3. serious drug offences
  4. crimes involving dishonesty
  1. Identification check
  2. Disciplinary action in previous employment check.

A person nominated for this position must also satisfy a further criminal history check in accordance with the Director of Prison’s Standing Orders established under the Corrections Act 1997:

A nominated person cannot be employed within Correctional Primary Health Services if excluded from entry to Tasmanian Prison Services under the Corrections Act 1997.
